KKU climbs the world university ranking due to its success in the pre-clinical, clinical and health professions.

Times Higher Education places KKU Medical and Public Sciences at a higher position on the world rank 

Time Higher Education (THE), an English university ranker, has released its announcement of the world university ranking 2020 on the areas relating to clinical, pre-clinical and health. A total of 775 universities worldwide, raised from 721 universities in the past year, were placed on the high standard evaluation. 

The result shows seven Thai universities attaining the world class ranking in the area of clinical, pre-clinical and health including; Mahidol University, Chulalongkorn University, Khon Kaen University, Chiang Mai University, Prince of Songkla University, Naresuan University, and Thammasat University. Particularly, KKU is placed on the 501-600 level world rank, and is sharing the third place on the national level with Chiang Mai and Prince of Songkla University. Khon Kaen University was ranked at the 601+ and it was on the fourth place at a national scale in 2019.  In 2020, the world’s top five medical universities are; University of Oxford, Harvard University, University of Cambridge, Imperial College Londo and Stanford University, respectively. The top-two Thai medical universities are Mahidol University and Chulalongkorn University, respectively.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul (MD), an acting president, explained that KKU attains a better world ranking on clinical, pre-clinical and health area thanks to its status as a research university. The university has conducted many high impact medical and health research that can help improve the health of the people residing in the Northeastern and the Mekong Sub-region. 

 “I would like to address my word of thanks to all KKU staff, be it researchers, supporting staff and students, for having contributed to the creation of research that help resolve public matters and increase health quality for Thai people. Khon Kaen University has produced about 600 researches on the areas of clinical, pre-clinical and health. We got great support from about 300 researchers who tailored out their research work based on the indicators of the world university ranking. KKU has developed standard on its research and pedagogy. In 2020, the teaching score is 24.5, increased from 21.7 in 2109.  The research score for 2020 is 17.3, compared to 11.7 in 2019. The citation score of 2020 is 37.0 increased from 27.9 in the previous year. The score on international outlook is 36.4 while the figure was 36.5 in 2019. And the score on industry income is 46.4 in 2020 while the figure was 42.5 in 2019.” Quoted Assoc. Prof. Charnchai. 

        KHon Kaen University has many medical and health services available at; Srinagarind Hospital, Queen Sirikit Heart Center, Dental Hospital, Health Service and Physical Therapy Center of the Faculty of Associated Medical Science, Animal Hospital, and Khon Kaen University Community Health Service Center. The university also has health sciences subjects available at the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Nursing Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, Faculty of Public Health, and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.  These faculties the key contributors for the increasing of KKU world rank on the medical and health areas.

Teaching: the learning environment 27.5 per cent

Research: volume, income and reputation 27.5 per cent

Citations: research influence 35 per cent

International outlook: staff, students and research 7.5 per cent

Industry income: innovation 2.5 per cent
