During a high-profile visit to the ancient royal city of Luang Prabang on February 7, 2025, KKU President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul led a distinguished delegation to Souphanouvong University, marking a significant milestone in cross-border educational cooperation. The timing couldn’t have been more symbolic, coinciding with Souphanouvong University’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
“This isn’t just another memorandum of understanding – it’s a blueprint for transforming the educational landscape of the Mekong region,” declared Dr. Chanchai. The partnership envisions groundbreaking initiatives, including innovative student exchange programs, collaborative research projects, and the development of cutting-edge international programs that promise to attract talent from across Southeast Asia.
The collaboration comes at a crucial time when both institutions are positioning themselves as key players in ASEAN’s academic arena. Souphanouvong University, nestled in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Luang Prabang, has emerged as a powerhouse of learning in Laos, boasting six diverse faculties and an impressive alumni network of over 13,000 graduates. Its strategic location and comprehensive academic offerings – ranging from Economics and Tourism to Agriculture and Engineering – make it an ideal partner for KKU’s regional ambitions.
