Grade 11 students from Khon Kaen University Demonstration School (Education) have achieved international acclaim, securing a Gold Medal at the prestigious 5th Youth International Science Fair (YISF 2025) in Indonesia. Their groundbreaking project, “Empowering Bedridden Children with AI-Driven Exercise Support,” stood out among 133 teams from 13 countries, showcasing the students’ ingenuity and dedication to improving lives through technology.
The winning team, comprised of Mr. Nattapat Srichan, Mr. Chantawat Nesusin, and Mr. Takdanai Thaweerungsrisap, developed an innovative solution that leverages the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist bedridden children with exercise. This project was entered in the Innovation Science category. The YISF 2025, organized by the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA) and the State University of Malang from February 13-17, 2025, attracted participants from diverse nations, including Indonesia, Thailand, Austria, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Romania, South Korea, Turkey, the UAE, the USA, and Vietnam.
The students’ success was nurtured by the expert guidance of their advisors: Prof. Dr. Wanida Kaen-akat, a leading AI specialist from Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Engineering, and Mr. Somchok Kaewutat, a dedicated science and technology teacher at Khon Kaen University Demonstration School (Education). Their mentorship, provided through the school’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Club, proved instrumental in the project’s development.
This achievement underscores the collaborative spirit and commitment to innovation fostered at Khon Kaen University. The project received crucial support from the Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, known for its cutting-edge AI and smart technologies programs. Khon Kaen University Demonstration School (Education) and the Faculty of Education also played a vital role in promoting student development. Furthermore, the project benefited from the invaluable expertise of pediatric specialists Assoc. Prof. Dr. Leelawadee Techasatian and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rattapon Uppala from the Faculty of Medicine, whose insights ensured the innovation’s relevance and effectiveness in the medical field.
On February 21, 2025, Khon Kaen University Demonstration School (Education) celebrated this remarkable accomplishment. Asst. Prof. Dr. Sarawut Jackpeng, Deputy Dean for Demonstration Schools and Educational Innovation Development, presented certificates of honor, recognizing the students and advisors for bringing international recognition to the institution. This victory highlights the potential of young minds to create impactful solutions for real-world challenges.
