In a landmark move that promises to reshape education across the Mekong Subregion, Khon Kaen University and the Lao PDR Private Education Association joined forces through a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on February 5, 2025. The prestigious ceremony, held at the Latsavong Wanda Vista Vientiane Hotel, marked the beginning of an ambitious cross-border educational transformation.

The historic signing brought together influential leaders from both nations. Mr. Surapon Petch-vra, Vice Chairman of the KKU Council, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, KKU President, led the Thai delegation. The Laotian side was represented by Dr. Khamsen Sisavong, a distinguished Member of the Lao National Assembly and President of the Lao PDR Private Education Association, alongside Mr. Somporn Sondara, Head of Vientiane’s Department of Education and Sports and Ms. Jinda Pontaesa, Vice President of the Lao PDR Private Education Association.

Dr. Khamsen Sisavong highlighted the partnership’s massive potential impact, noting their network of over 1,200 member schools across Laos. “This collaboration opens doors for our 1,200-plus educational institutions to benefit from cutting-edge pedagogical approaches and international best practices,” he explained.
The partnership introduces five innovative programs: STEAM-focused curriculum development, Advanced educator professional development, Excellence Innovative Leadership Program, Student Immersive Development Program, and Educational Innovation Sandbox.
Practical Implementation
The agreement moved swiftly from theory to practice as KKU faculty members and demonstration school representatives conducted immediate field visits to Vientiane’s private schools. These visits facilitated real-time knowledge exchange and laid the groundwork for future collaborative projects.
