KKU Hosts Global Leadership Camp 2024 to Equip Students for Global Citizenship

Khon Kaen University is taking proactive steps to prepare its students for the global stage with the “KKU Global Leadership and Collaborative Camp 2024,” held from August 24-25, 2024. Organized by the Division of International Affairs under the “Active Approach for Global Learners” project, the camp attracted over 70 participants, including third- and fourth-year undergraduate students, international students, and postgraduate students. The event took place at the Rub Kwan Room, Bayasita Hotel, Khon Kaen University.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Acharawan Topark-Ngarm, Assistant to the President for International Affairs, opened the event, emphasizing the university’s commitment to developing future leaders who can thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. She explained that the camp is part of KKU’s broader Global Perspective initiative, designed to foster leadership qualities among students.

“While leadership can sometimes be innate, it is often the result of practice, knowledge acquisition, and skill development. At KKU, we are dedicated to nurturing our students into global citizens and cultivating the strong global leadership needed in today’s world. This camp is a key initiative in shaping our students into effective future leaders,” said Dr. Acharawan.

The camp offered a range of activities aimed at enhancing participants’ leadership skills in a global context. Students had the opportunity to engage in discussions, hands-on workshops, and experience-sharing sessions, all designed to broaden their perspectives and improve their leadership abilities.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Kurusart Konharn, Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations, expressed his enthusiasm for the camp, highlighting its significance in exposing students to global leadership practices. “We are delighted to offer our students this unique opportunity to explore global perspectives on leadership. This camp not only provides valuable learning experiences but also fosters international collaboration, which is essential in today’s interconnected world. We are honored to have representatives from Fulbright Thailand, Mitr Phol Group, and our esteemed faculty join us in this endeavor.”

Among the participants was Miss Natnicha Prasomboon, a fifth-year medical student, who shared her initial expectations and subsequent experiences. “Initially, I thought this camp would be just another typical training session, but it turned out to be much more. The activities were interactive and thought-provoking, allowing us to explore leadership from various perspectives. The most impactful exercise for me was one where we had to navigate through obstacles while blindfolded, guided only by our peers. It reinforced the idea that leadership is not a solo journey; it’s about working together with your team.”

Natnicha, who also serves as the Vice President for International Affairs at the Faculty of Medicine’s Student Union, added, “This camp has given me new insights that I can apply to my role in the student union, particularly in working with international student organizations. The skills and knowledge I’ve gained here will be invaluable as I move forward in my career.”

The two-day camp featured several notable sessions. On the first day, students delved into digital leadership and strategic thinking, guided by Ms. Porntip Kanjananiyot, Former Executive Director of Fulbright Thailand, and Ms. Chotima Chaitiamwong, Outreach Officer of Fulbright Thailand. The second day focused on the intersection of AI and leadership, with a thought-provoking panel discussion titled “AI and Leadership: Helping or Hindering Scenarios?” led by Mr. Athikom Kanchanavibhu, Assistant Managing Director of Digital & Technology Transformation, Mitr Phol Group (via Zoom). The camp concluded with group activities and brainstorming sessions aimed at empowering students to hone their leadership skills.

Through initiatives like the KKU Global Leadership and Collaborative Camp, Khon Kaen University continues to position itself as a leader in fostering the next generation of global citizens, equipped with the skills and mindset necessary to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
