September 22-25, 2022 – Thai fashion designed by students of the architectural design program of the Faculty of Architecture, Khon Kaen University was selected as one of nine institutions for a show at the Fashion Visionary Stage, Bangkok International Fashion Week, 2022 at Siam Center, Bangkok.
The Bangkok International Fashion Week 2022 was organized by Siam Piwat Co. Ltd. The event was an important phenomenon of Thai fashion in Thailand, and was held simultaneously at Siam Center, Siam Discovery, and Siam Paragon. Activities included Grand Runway @ Park Paragon, with the brands by leading Thai designers, e.g., ISSUE, VICKTEERUT, KLOSET, VVON SUGUNNASIL, NAGARA, POEM, TandT, ASAVA, VATANIKA, GREYHOUND ORIGINAL, PAINKILLER, FRI27NOV, and FLYNOW. Khon Kaen Commerce Office chose potential students for the Esan Fabrics Wisdom Exploration & Ideation, who made dresses from Isan fabric under the concept, Design Your Freedom. The dresses have been designed to be used without limit, with no sex or age discrimination. The dresses were shown at the Fashion Visionary Stage in the Bangkok International Fashion Week at Siam Center. Nine institutions joined at this venue: Bangkok University, Ubon Ratchathani University, Rajabhat University Suan Sunantha, Mahasarakham University, Rajamangala University of Technology Bangkok, Rajamangala University of Technology Sriwichai, Chanapat International Design Institute, Thammasat University, Srinakharinwirot University, and Khon Kaen University.
Mr. Kritsada Thitham, a fourth year student of the Fashion and Fabric Design Program, the representative of the students who were selected for the show gave an interview, saying that he was excited for being selected and was happy that more people saw the work. Two collections of the student were selected consisting of 4 dresses. The one he likes most was the Esan under the Lens, which was inspired from Bangfai Merit Making tradition. The dress was in the Androgyny style that is not confined to any sex. Another dress made from his experience was the dress worn by an MUT 2022 contestant. He used the skills in dress making from class and from training. The person who wore it also likes the dress.
What the student learned from the faculty are something new like sewing, weaving, building patterns for dresses, brand building. He obtained connection from upper-class students who already graduated. It is important to know some seniors. The skills and knowledge can be used to earn money and enabled him to know if design is what he enjoys. He obtained more experiences from training at De Twenty Two Studio where he worked in real situation. The practicum made him know that he really likes fashion and design. There were opportunities provided by acquaintances, the seniors, professors and others who saw his works, until some of the works were selected for the BIFW 2022 this time.
