June 7, 2024, at Sirikunakorn Room 5, 6th Floor, Sirikunakorn Building, Khon Kaen University – Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University; Assoc. Prof. Nawarat Wara-Aswapati, Ph.D., Vice President for International Affairs; Asst. Prof. Acharawan To-phakngarm, Ph.D., Assistant to the President for International Affairs; and Assoc. Prof. Orathai Pia-ura, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, welcomed delegates from Savannakhet University, People’s Democratic Republic of Laos, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khoune SACKBOUAVONG, President of Savannakhet University (Lao PDR). The objective of the meeting was to discuss academic and research collaboration and exchange of lecturers and students, as well as the possibility in entering a continuous MOU.
Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University said on behalf of Khon Kaen University that the University is pleased to develop continuing research and academic collaboration and exchange of students with Savannakhet University. Khon Kaen University has a strategy to build collaboration and develoment with countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). At present, Khon Kaen University has strong academic and research collaboration with Lao PDR. There has been support for funding of different projects such as the Matching Scholarship of the Second Strengthening Higher Education Project (SSHEP) with the National University of Laos, Champasack University, Souphanouvong University and Savannakhet University; Lan Chang scholarship and GMS scholarship, supported by KKU to students in the Mekong Subregion.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khoune SACKBOUAVONG, President of Savannakhet University (Lao PDR) thanked Khon Kaen University on behalf of the delegates for the warm welcome. The visit this time was meant to discuss academic and research collaboration and the chance and process in developing an MOU with Khon Kaen University. The number of lecturers from Lao PDR who are studying at the Graduate School of Khon Kaen University and joined the meeting today showed the potentiality in preparation of quality graduates that both universities have.
In the afternoon, the delegates from Savannakhet University visited the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Agriculture to discuss co-development of programs and exchange of lecturers and students in the future.
