Agriculture student, KKU, wins the 2024 National CWIE outstanding award from using different biological stimulants for melon growth

Khon Kaen University congratulates Miss Nattatida Pannoree, a 4th year student of the Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University for winning the 2024 CWIE outstanding national award in the category of Student Project / Work of CWIE Student, from “The Effect of the Use of Different Biological Stimulants for Melon at the Seedling, Trunk and Leaf Growth Stages.”

Miss Nattatida Pannoree, a 4th year student of the Faculty of Agriculture revealed that she was a practicum student at Batu Arang Farm A, Green World Gentics Sdn. Bhd., Selangor State, Malysia from June 23, 2023 until October 13, 2033, totaling a period of 16 weeks. The work that led to her being awarded the prize was “The Effect of the Use of Different Biological Stimulants for Melon at the Seedling, Trunk and Leaf Growth Stages.”

“The background behind this study was that formerly the company used Bio-stimulant C to stimulate growth of melons. After that, the farm obtained two new stimulants: Stimulant A and Stimulant B. The company expected that the new stimulants would yield similar result to the former stimulant. That was the beginning of the study on the effect of the use of different bio-stimulants on the growth of melon at the seedling stage and at the growth stage of trunks and leaves. Conclusion can be drawn from the experiment that the use of stimulants affected melon twigs more than the growth of seedlings, trunk height and size of leaves. Thus, we should use appropriate stimulants for the period of growth of twigs to stimulate complete female flowers during the fruit bearing stage.”
“This was a short-term project, just in one month. The important thing about the project was that it was the company’s problem and the outcome of the experiment could be used in management of plants in the company and in management of the use of chemicals in order to reduce the production costs. Moreover, the results can be used as the database for the study on development of quality melons in the future.”

The national CWIE outstanding awarding is organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. The works submitted, including the cooperative education work outcomes, and the integration of work and study, are selected. The CWIE outstanding awards are presented on CWIE DAY, to inspire and praise the awarded students. This year, the award presentation will be on the 14th Cooperative Education Day and CWIE DAY on June 6, 2024.
