May 9, 2024 at the Golden Jubilee Conference Center, Khon Kaen University – International College, Khon Kaen University held the Inter-Home to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Khon Kaen University. The event was under the topic: “Empowering Tomorrow: New Isan and the Next Generation of Human Capital”. The opening session was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, who gave the opening address while Asst. Prof. Sirimonporn Thipsingh, Ph.D., Dean of the International College delivered the reporting speech. The event was attended by over 3,000 people including students, alumni, and entrepreneurs.
Asst. Prof. Sirimonporn Thipsingh, Ph.D., Dean of the International College reported that “Inter Home” is one of the activities in the Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Khon Kaen University. KKU is the nurturing institute of the diversity that enhances creativity that in turn leas to the development of leadership skill, under the internationalized environment. The International College, Khon Kaen University has the aim to upgrade Isan, by means of the thinking, vision, and other perspectives, towards the new era of Isan. The important aspect of the new era Isan involves the socio-cultural, and identity changes of Isan people at present. Besides, promotion is carried out for education and continuous learning of the Isan region to enhance the useful skills and knowledge for social and community development now and in the future.
“ Inter Home is a CSR Project that gives chances to the people, create bodies of knowledge that benefit the new generation. There are 9 distinguished speakers, 7 sessions and 7 perspectives from multiple circles who will talk about different issues under the topic: “Empowering Tomorrow: New Isan and the Next Generation of Human Capital”. This is borderless education, for educational opportunities are important for life progress or continuing of studies abroad. There are representatives from the US and France, Khun Anntonia Porsild, the first runner-up of Miss Universe 2023, who is known as an international empowering body. Inter Home is a cluster of alumni and present students. Home in Isan is a cluster for merit making. The invited guests are all volunteers, such as Khun Jirayus Sapsrisopa, CEO of Bitkub, Khun CK Cheong, CEO of Fastwork Co. Ltd. Khun Jittrawinee Wannakorn, Assistant Manager of Kasikorn Thai Bank, Khun Oliver Kittipong Weeratecha, Chairman of the Administrative Officers, Marketing and Innovation Group of Dentsu Inc. Thailand. The event has been organized for the new generation who will become the human capital and create different things for the country and the world.”
Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University said that this event has been organized to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Khon Kaen University, which is the knowledge and innovation resource for the community. Khon Kaen University sees the importance of education and research that correspond to the situation and needs of Isan. Khon Kaen University has the role in promoting and developing Isan community through the academic and cultural activities and academic services that bring benefits to the local and social development of Isan. “Inter Home” has an aim to provide a venue for learning and sharing of experiences, to build the mindset, and enable the new-gen students to be cognizant of digital technology and use their power for extension towards the new Isan.”
“It can be seen that nowadays, the lifestyle of people, as well as business styles have changed. We can see that entrepreneurs can run a catering business with no shop, but rely instead of the supply chain. We should therefore teach students to be able to think creatively, enhance their imagination and new strategies required by the society. For the new Isan, the key factors are logistics, geography, and economy. For geography, Thailand is notable for being a connecting point in the Mekong region that includes Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, South China and Myanmar. For economy, at the end of the cold war, the battle field was changed to a commercial field. Trading is carried out across the border, with the trading values of almost hundreds of millions. Isan economy will grow in parallel with our neighbors. In addition, for Thai logistics, we are the connecting point of the Mekong region. Railway line now comes from South China. There is the double-track railway line to Ban Phai, Nakhon Panom, Danang. All of these need the power of the new generation, especially from an institution like Khon Kaen University. I truly hope that “Inter Home” will provide a space for learning and sharing of knowledge and experiences, and for building the mindset that will drive forward the new-gen students to use their power to effectively make Isan the new Isan in the near future.”
Khun Anntonia Porsild, the 2023 Miss Universe Thailand and the first runner-up of the Miss Universe 2023 said, “I’m honored to present a talk on Empowering the Next Generation of Global Leaders: A Woman’s Vision. This is the second time I’ve come to Khon Kaen. Every time the welcoming is warn and I’m excited. Maybe I’m also an Isan person, for Nakhon Ratchasima is my hometown. The students are interested and eager to learn about creativity, imagination and building mindset that will lead to success through one’s direct experience. No one can stop our dream and power except ourselves. So every time you wake up, just tell yourself that today is better than yesterday. You are doing everything in a competitive field where it is you alone. Be confident of your own potential. If on any day you are not confident, look at me, for I will always support you. Do everything on everyday with all your might and your heart. It doesn’t matter if you are successful or not. At least when you look back you won’t feel sorry for you’ve done your best. The new world is in your hand. It is in the power of the new generation like us.”
This event is the indicator of the potential of the personnel and students of the International College. It leads to the readiness in the development of the new era Isan that opens a chance for Isan people to lead their lives with security and greater quality, through the greater chances in education, job, and access to high technologies.
The event was also honored to have Khun Surapon Petchwara, Vice Chairman of Khon Kaen University and a former Ambassador to give a special talk on “International Education and the Building of the World Citizens in the New-Era Isan”.
