A big event ever! KKU hosts an International Conference joined by world specialists, to update info on “Head and Neck Cancer”

Thursday February 1, 2024 – Khon Kaen University and the network organized the International Conference on Head & Neck Oncology under the topic: “Precision Approach in Management of Head and Neck Cancer” at Pulman Raja Orchid Hotel. The event was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University.

Assoc. Prof. Pattarawut Vadhanasap, M.D., President of the Asian Society for Head and Neck Oncology and President of Thailand Society for Head and Neck Oncology reported that head and neck cancer is a challenging disease faced by doctors all over the world, in terms of research, health care service, and development of specialists. Khon Kaen University is thus aiming to solve this problem by performing extensive research and extending health care service in order to upgrade the quality of life of th patients. Up to now, Khon Kaen University has collaborated with world head and neck cancer specialists from Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, USA. Conferences have been scheduled for learning and sharing of the issue since 2019.

This year International Conference on Head & Neck Oncology was aimed at knowledge and information acquisition and collaboration among personnel and students in the fields of health sciences, with the Center of Excellence and Health Service, the International Affairs Section of the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry joining as the principle hosts. The conference objective was promotion of internationalization and excellence in education, research and health service.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University welcomed the participants on behalf of Khon Kaen University to the 2024 International Conference on Head & Neck Oncology, which was also an activity to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Khon Kaen University. The conference was organized with cooperation from Thailand Society for Head and Neck Oncology, the Asian Society of Head and Neck Oncology, leading specialists from the United States, the Netherland, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand. Participants, from the west and the east, had indepth discussions on head and neck cancer.

“The learning and sharing raised bodies of knowledge in advanced medicine, the treatment process and precise diagnosis. These are the key strategies that help driving forward Khon Kaen University to achieve the goal according to the vision of the University to become a world leading university and according to the University’s mission to become an excellent Medical Hub, where medical services are extended with more specialized doctors, more research works and innovations.”

Dr. Warichaya Wiriyachaiyakul, a graduate level student of the Department of Otolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University said after the morning session that she decided to join the conference after learning about it from the Department’s public relation because she is interested to learn about the use of robots in operating for more precision and for reaching the points difficult to reach.

 

“I’m happy today to come here to update knowledge about the new method of treatment. This morning there was an interesting talk related to chemotherapy for patients with head and neck cancer. In the future, I hope such conference is organized again with workshop in addition to lectures.”

 

The International Conference on Head & Neck Oncology is a conference, a forum, training and brainstorming with emphases on precision medicine, robotic surgery, and area contexts. The conference was scheduled on February 1-2, 2024, and was the channel for personnel and students in the fields of health sciences to learn and share their knowledge related to head and neck oncology with a number of world specialists.
