November 2, 2022 – Khon Kaen University under the lead of President Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D.; Ajarn Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit, Assistant to the President for Special Affairs; Asst. Prof. Araya Chaoruangrit, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Technology; Assoc. Prof. Chupong Thongkhamsamut, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Architecture; with the working team from the Willpower Institute, staff and students, brought 467 packs of articles donated through the project of KKU for social assistance during crisis, fiscal year 2023 (second time) to 3 areas: Ban Bueng Ithao, Sila Sub-district; Ban Huay Chan, Sila Sub-district; and Ban Na Piang, Samran Sub-district, Muang district, Khon Kaen.
Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D. President of Khon Kaen University explained that Khon Kaen University has collected rice, dried foods from kind-hearted people from both the governmental and private sectors to assist people who are affected by disasters. This time, many administrators of the University and Deans of many faculties including students joined. Students have assisted in this activity all through the crisis, in many aspects. The President then thanked the deans and the team of students and staff who put their efforts in the activity. He also sent his well wishes to the people who faced the floods and said he hoped the situation will improved soon.
Ajarn Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit, Assistant to the President for Special Affairs said that Khon Kaen University performs such activity in accordance with the intention of “social dedication”. Every year, the University carries out a project during October by mobilizing articles donated from staff of different faculties and departments and students. Every year, the activity is done once. But this year, because there were floods in many areas around Khon Kaen, the project is being carried out twice. The University has received good support from everywhere since the donation desks were opened until the packing activity and the visits to the areas.
“I am impressed to see staff and students come out and help. By just announcing that we were preparing to go out and help the flood victims, many came at once. Even though many administrators had their duties or meetings, they just left their official mission and joined the project. This is because the project of this kind is not conducted frequently. Entering the flooded area is an act of sacrifice. It can be seen that everyone is happy to come out and give a hand, which finally reaches the villagers in the form of assistance and articles. The villagers also see the spirit of people from Khon Kaen University. Therefore, such activity is truly the University’s social dedication act.”
The project to assist people who are facing trouble from natural disaster is performed every year in accordance with the University’s intention for “social dedication”. The project is carried out by all organizations in the University including the Student Union. This year, the project is entitled, “Khon Kaen University’s care and assistance for the society during crisis” of the fiscal year 2023. Donation desks were open to receive donated articles from October 6 until October 25. KKU team then entered the area for the first time on October 28, 2022. Before that, a group had visited Ban Dong Pong, Sila Sub-district, Muang district with 400 packages of donated articles to give to affected people.
