KKU joins in holding a virtual meeting of Thailand with 55 countries worldwide

Monday July 19, 2021 at 13:00 p.m., Thai time – Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University officially opened The 44th of The International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME 44) and welcomed the participants. The meeting was organized in a virtual meeting format.

Thai universities have joined the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Israel, the Center for Research in Mathematics Education; the Centre of Excellence in Mathematics, Thailand Society of Mathematics Education, the Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN, the Educational Foundation for Development of Thinking Skills, and the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology to hold The 44th of The International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME 44) under the topic, “Mathematics Education in the 4th Industrial Revolution: Thinking Skills for the Future”, which is scheduled on July 19 – 22, 2021.

The objectives of the meeting are to have researchers, experts, and those setting policies who are interested in Mathematics Education from all over the world to share their experiences and knowledge that will lead to educational development and better society. The meeting is organized virtually via electronics media. Activities are various including special talks by Plenary Speakers, who are renowned academics from many countries, including Roberto Araya (Chile), David Wagner (Canada), Michal Tabach (Israel), Berinderjeet KAUR (Singapore), Hamsa Venkat (South Africa), Keith Jones (UK), Lew HeeChan (South Korea), Anna BaccagliniFrank(Italy), and OiLam NG (Hong Kong). Other sessions feature presentation of research reports, working groups, seminars, colloquiums, national presentations, oral communications, and poster presentations. There are 661 participants joining the virtual meeting from 55 countries.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University said that mathematics is related to daily lives of people in many aspects. The meeting on mathematics study this time is under the academic service mission of Khon Kaen University. It also integrates the research processes and instruction, which demonstrates the University’s responsibility over the community. The President finally thanked the participants and all of the organizers.

Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D., Vice President for Education Academic Services of Khon Kaen University and the Conference Chair of the Local Organizing Committee for the PME 44th said, “The topic of the meeting is ‘Mathematics Education in the 4th Industrial Revolution: Thinking Skills for the Future’. This is an appropriate time that enables us to revise the importance of various thinking skills. However, due to COVID19 pandemic, the meeting is completely held online. We thank those who have supported us and thank for the opportunities you have given us for the second time to host the meeting. We are pleased to have a chance to get involved with the new experience, PME 44 this year with Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. We find this very challenging.
