Khon Kaen University has been ranked 1st as the university for the community for 2 years in THE Impact Ranking 2020

On 22 April 2020, “THE” (Times Higher Education), the world’s top university rankings institution in England announced the university ranking in THE Impact Ranking 2020 which captures universities’ impact on society. This year, Khon Kaen University, Chulalongkorn University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi have been ranked 1st in Thailand according to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

This year, Khon Kaen University achieves a score of 75.4 – 83.3, while the first top 3 Sustainable Development Goals that we got the highest scores are SDG 3 good health and wellbeing: 78.3, SDG 4 quality education: 71.4 and SDG 8 decent work and economic growth: 65.0 in order. All these 3 criteria of Khon Kaen University are ranked in the top 100 in the world. Moreover, Khon Kaen University has also been ranked 101st – 200th in the world with SDG 17 Partnerships for The Goals and ranked 1st in Thailand.

Asst. Prof. Tala Thammaroj, M.D. Khon Kaen University’s Vice President for Administration revealed about this ranking that Khon Kaen University had been ranked 1st in Thailand for social and community impacts in the past year by “THE” (Times Higher Education) and can maintain the first place for the second year. It shows that Khon Kaen University makes its position clear for dedication to society with real ongoing actions. Altogether, the top 5 universities that have won the University Impact Rankings 2020 are 1. University of Auckland, New Zealand, 2. University of Sydney, Australia, 3. Western Sydney University, Australia, 4. La Trobe University, Australia and 5. Arizona State University (Tempe), United States of America. Meanwhile, the top 5 universities in Thailand which were ranked in the University Impact Rankings 2020 consist of 3 universities in 101st- 200th ranks: Khon Kaen University, Chulalongkorn University and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, 1 university in 201st – 300th ranks is Mahidol University, 4 universities in 301st – 400th ranks: Asian Institute of Technology, Chiang Mai University King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and Srinakharinwirot University, and 1 university in 401st – 600th ranks is Mae Fah Luang University.

Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D. Khon Kaen University’s Acting President said “This award encourages everyone in Khon Kaen University and different from any other as it is a ranking of the universities which work on the development of outstanding bodies of knowledge and innovations, then transmit to help develop the community. Throughout the years, Khon Kaen University has stood out in the field of using the knowledge from the university to help the community following the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) principles which focus on creating a sustainable community. Therefore, when Khon Kaen University has been ranked 1st for 2 years, it emphasizes that KKU is number 1 university for the community in Thailand. Thus, all personnel should be proud of our University and continue to work on the knowledge development for the community to be ranked as number 1 university for community in Thailand forever.”
