MET KKU Exhibition 2019 is an annual education fair hosted by the Medical Illustration and Audio Visual Technology students to display their learning artifacts such as photos, drawing, television programs, graphic design, models and other artificial medical equipment. The activity also provides the program tutorial for perspective students.
On September 9, 2019, at Central Plaza Khon Kaen, a group of senior students from Department of Technology Program in Medical Educational Technology hosted an exhibition to display the students’ products to the public. These products are applicable for medical purposes. Dr. Piyanut Sudee, the curriculum’s chairperson, greeted the audiences. Miss Passachon Boontham, a head of the project, reported the program’s objectives to Assoc. Prof. Kamonwan Jenwithisook, an assistant dean for academic of the faculty of Medical Sciences and the event’s chairperson.
Dr. Piyanut Sudee said that the exhibition has been held for 22nd time. It is an arena that enables the students to present to the public the inventions developed from their courses. Presented at the exhibition are the students’ work on medical picture sketching, medical photographing, medical television programming and medical sculpturing and modeling. This exhibition encourages the students’ creativity and attract the future students who are considering pursuing their education in Medical Illustration and Audio Visual Technology.
Miss Passachon Boontham said this exhibition was a part of her course entitled, Exhibition and Medical Museum, which allows the students practices on different skills including; medical picture sketching, medical photographing, medical television programming and medical sculpturing and modeling. The artifacts developed around these areas were presented in the exhibition. To complete their mission in doing the exhibition, the students were trained not only on their academic skills but also on how to work with others and sharing different responsibilities and roles.
Assoc. Prof. Kamonwan Jenwithisook said this exhibition was a part of her course entitled, Exhibition and Medical Museum, which allows the students practices on different skills including; medical picture sketching, medical photographing, medical television programming and medical sculpturing and modeling. The inventions in these areas are highly beneficial for medical education development. The exhibition shows the program’s achievement in cultivating medical art skills for the students while the inventions presented at the fair are good reflectors of the students’ talents. The exhibition attracts more students to study in this area.
Miss Orawan Srinak, an owner of the Augmented Reality (AR Book), said her book was developed as a requirement of a course on human anatomy. The book was intended for the readers at primary to secondary school levels. The book illustrates the functioning of nine systems of human body. The book incorporates We Play Application to scan for 3D pictures which can be rotated around the clock with that application.
“It took about one month and a half for the book to be completed. The most time-consuming part is drawing. About 95 percent of the illustration from this book is drawn by hand. The sculpturing of the 3D images took 2 weeks. Despite the fact that the idea on using AR in textbook is quite new, the outcomes on the students learning is satisfying. The piloting of the book with the students shows that AR book could effectively raise learning outcomes on the functioning of human organs over the use of conventional textbooks. The book will undergo revision and will be put on the shelve at bookstore in the near future”. Said Orawan.
The exhibition also hosts a special lecture on the monitoring and suggestions in handling with depression patients, the session was presented by Ek-Asan Kowsupat, an on-service recipient of a KKU scholarship from Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medical Sciences, and Miss Kamonpon Wannaprakae, public relation official of Faculty of Medical Science.
The exhibition provides an all rounded learning for the students and it is an arena to publicize the students’ achievement on the development of medical education media.
