KKU Royal Initiative Project Coordinating Center hosted the second seminar to disseminate the royal initiative project’s best practices at Rajawadi Resort Hotel in Khon Kaen.
On August 21, 2019 at Rajawadi Resort Hotel in Khon Kaen, KKU Royal Initiative Project Coordinating Center hosted the second seminar to disseminate the royal initiative project’s best practices. The meeting was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul (MD), advisor to the acting president of Khon Kaen University. The project objective was reported by Asst. Prof. Penprapha Petcharabooranin, a director of KKU Royal Initiative Project Coordinating Center. There were about 230 participants who were representatives from different organizations including KKU, Khon Kaen Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment, 22 of sub-district Administration Offices from Khon Kaen that are the practitioners of the royal initiative projects, and 44 schools exercising the projects relating to the Plant Genetic Conservation Project Under the Royal Initiation of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn (RSPG).
The seminar provides a platform for the exchange of expertise on the implementation of the royal initiative projects between Khon Kaen University and other organizations.
Asst. Prof. Penprapha Petcharabooranin, a director of KKU Royal Initiative Project Coordinating Center, said the center is a hub for the development of the royal initiative projects and other projects under RSPG implemented in the northeastern region.
“As a hub of the royal initiative project development in the Northeast, the center is obliged to create network for the project development. Accordingly, this seminar is conducted to foster collaboration among the organizations who are the performers of the royal initiative project, which should bring about broader spectrum of social and economical development”. Said Asst. Prof. Penprapha.
Assoc. Prof. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul (MD), advisor to the acting president of Khon Kaen University, said KKU Royal Initiative Project Coordinating Center has conducted about 50 projects in compliance with the purposes of the royal initiative projects, which lead to wide range of regional development.
“KKU has overhauled its idea on social commitment from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to Creating Shared Value (CSV), the latter is believed to yield benefits to both KKU and its collaborators. Based on this new social working principle and cooperation with KKU Royal Initiative Project Coordinating Center, KKU has created many innovations that help maintain resources in the communities. KKU has also provided technical supports for the school’s botanical garden projects which enables the schools to perform DNA fingerprint as a heredity record of the local Thai plant species. The data on botanical record earned at the school level help the university to conduct further and more complicated research that professionally helps preserve the local plant heredity. Many artifacts obtained from the binary collaboration research obtained intellectual property registration”. Explained the acting president’s supervisor.
Mr. Boonsong Jantasorn, a head of Nonghaew village, in Srisaket’s Rasisalai district, revealed about the “Green Marketing Project” that is exercised in his village in accordance with the initiation of the royal project. The project started four years ago with collaboration of the people from Rasisalai district, Phon Sai District and Ratanaburi District. It helps increase the household incomes and generates sustainable development in the communities.
“After the construction of Rasisalai Dam the villagers around the dam’s vicinity were affected and some amount of indemnity was paid to the subjected group. With their attempt to earn more sustainably, the villagers clubbed together in producing hygienic agricultural products. The plants are grown systematically with an allocation of a committee team to inspect the standard of the plantation. The products are sold at different local markets in the province, each sale yields a revenue of 1500-7000 baht. Producing clean vegetables is good for the producers and the consumers’ health. By working with KKU Royal Initiative Project Coordinating Center, the knowledge on sustainable community management is shared to the university students which should make them comprehend the community value and aware of the importance of living nature”. Said Boonsong.
The morning session of the seminar was a discussion on the topic of, “The Application of the King’s Intellect for Sustainable Development”. The discussion participants were; Mr. Tanathep Unarat (a head of Nongnawong village), Mrs. Pranee Makanun (a representative from Nongnakham village and Green Market group from Srisaket), Mrs. Sumonta Laochai (a hygienic rice expert from Araya Farm, Roi-Et), and Mr. Anucha Lomkhampha (a director of Yangkham School who creates student development project via the application of the King’s intellect).
The afternoon seminar was on the topic of, “Following the footprint of the Conservationist Princess”, which was participated by; Mr. Chana Nontawong, a director of Sotsuksa Khon Kaen School for the Deaf, the president of Bua-ngern sub-district administration office, and Asst. Prof. Waroonthip Chatjuthamani, a lecturer from Rajamangala University of Technology Isan Khonkaen Campus.
