On June 27, 2019, The Communication Affairs of The Digital Technology Department and The Information Technology Department hosted at workshop on Workplace by Facbook in order to fuel the development of digital communication in the university. Mrs.Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit, Acting Assistant to President for Special Affairs, reported the program’s objectives. The program was chaired by Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee, Ph.D. , Acting Vice President for Digital University Development. There were about 70 people took part in the event. Mr. Tanya Pakdee, a director for central administration, and acting director of communication affairs and other KKU members took part in the workshop. The program was trained by two qualified trainers, Ms. Maywarin Sri-Amnuya, a director of the change management office and Mr. Thitiwat Thotaveesaenkul, a head of the service and system consultant.
As observed by the university vision in becoming “a world leader university for research and development”, KKU has emphasized on the three areas of development namely; people, ecology, and spirit of the university. Major alteration in the university needed to be established via the transformation policy. The cater for the big internal change, a technology that promotes effective communication needed to be used in placed of the old and obsoleted channel. This is how Workplace finds its way into the development of KKU. The program needs to be encouraged to all KKU workers to promote clear communication. It was crucial to have a training that prepares the people on the functioning of Workplace.
Mrs. Nattasamol Tanakulrungsarit, said that Workplace is a program that is now being used to promote communication in many offices and it is encouraged to be used in KKU. The Workplace workshop was trained by experienced trainers on the area. This communication tool is encouraged for used by all KKU offices and it was hoped that the trainees would take another step further in expanding the knowledge on Workplace utilization to their office peers. Workplace has been used recently in KKU as a communication platform for the KKU Healthy Life Run project. It was required that the runners register and stay updated via Workplace.
Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee, Ph.D. , Acting Vice President for Digital University Development said, “Workplace can be used for the transformation of communication in the university. The communication platforms are shading away from sending email due to the ever-increasing preference on other communicating channels such as Line messenger. Posting on Line and other platform takes place more leisurely, meaning that some messages are sent carelessly to and from some unspecified person. The communication in the university requires higher standard to cater for effective transfer of official information. This is why internal communication has been endorsed in many professional organizations. One of the benefit is that Facebook, a Workplace developer, makes the program available for free for premium educational organization. We have a digital team to take care of the system. Workplace is encouraged to be used for communication in KKU to assure a thorough communication exclusively among the KKU staff. Workplace is also used by KKU administrators in place of the conventional platforms. With the help of the digital staff, the problems relating to the university internal communication will be sorted and solved in time”.
Mr. Chumporn Para revealed on behalf of the digital development team that learning regime and organizational management have been developed very quickly. Change in technology brings in new learning methods and communication. People work and socially associate more on digital application which is definitely more convenient for the users. With the observance of the university’s goal in becoming the world leader university in research and development and the KKU transformation policy, Workplace is promoted in KKU to assure effective and uniformity of communication in the university.
Workplace can be used for the transformation of communication in the university. KKU staff are expected to be able to use Workplace for work communication in KKU. It promotes a clear targeting communication since all the registered members of Workplace are KKU staff. Using Workplace helps KKU to achieve its goal in becoming a digital university. Workplace is reliable and enables around the clock communication with the clients from around the world.
