Friday May 12, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – Khon Kaen University Graduate School, the Education and Academic Service Section of Khon Kaen University; and the Management Unit for Human Resources & Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B) held a seminar under the Thailand Academy of Science Project. The event also featured special talks on the operation of Thailand Academy of Science, opening for 2024 proposals for PMU-B projects, and discussion on the roles of Khon Kaen University’s programs of study under the collaboration of Thailand Academy of Science, which is in accordance with the MOU of Thailand Science Institutions and the Framework of the MOU. The event was organized through ZOOM Meeting.
Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University delivered the welcoming speech, followed by Professor Sompong Khlainongsuang, Ph.D., President of the Management Unit for Human Resources & Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B) and his team who gave a special talk on the MOU framework. Next, there was a forum and learning and sharing of the roles of Khon Kaen University’s programs of study under the collaboration of Thailand Academy of Science; Thailand Academy of Science and the details of the MOU. Distinguished speakers of this session included Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D., Vice President for Education and Academic Service; Assoc. Prof. Kiatchai Fugsri, Ph.D., Dean of the Graduate School, and Assoc. Prof. Rina Pattaramanon, Ph.D., who acted as the moderator. The event closed with the learning and sharing activities on collaborative program development for the Thailand Academy of Science.
Thailand Academy of Sciences (TAS) is the center of connection of the network of researchers and scientists of the National Research Council and Universities. The work is run on the basis of existing sciences and technologies in the country. The objectives are to build good scientific foundation of the country and good development foundation for Thai people, to build a brain bank, to increase the Thai university ranks, to build frontier research and innovation outcomes, to prepare high-competency graduates in the necessary fields, and to increase the competitive competence of the country at the international level, with an aim towards Thailand being a developed country by 2037. The implementation will be in 3 dimensions: 1) Frontline Think Tank; 2) Frontier Science Alliances; and 3) Future Graduates Platform.
Khon Kaen University is taking the role in the implementation of programs at the master’s degree and PhD degree levels to prepare graduates with the future skills by collaborating with the alliances, namely: Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR); National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA and relevant private sectors. In the graduate programs, there will be the research issues and requirements of the alliances based on the national needs. Research will be carried out with alliances collaboration and collaboration with international agencies with expertise in each specific field. The end of the process will be graduates holding masters’ degrees and PhD degrees who will be recruited in the alliances’ organizations in the fiscal years 2024-2027. All of these are associated with the goal of Thailand Academy of Science.
The programs offered by Khon Kaen University that are in accordance with the alliances’ requirements are firstly, Bio Innovation for Sustainability (Future Foods and Bio-Nanotechnology, including the related programs in Bioscience and Bio-innovation for Sustainability, Faculty of Sciences and Systems Biosciences, Faculty of Medicine; and secondly, Advanced Functional Nanotechnology for CCUS (Carbon Capture Usage and Storage), with the related programs, namely, Material Science and Nano-technology, Faculty of Sciences.
