The 2022 ASEAN Contemporary Art Exhibition at KKU

August 25-29, 2022 – The Art, Culture and Creative Economy Section and Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts of Khon Kaen University held The ASEAN Contemporary art KKU workshop on “Metal and Salt”. The event was joined by a great number of Thai and foreign artists who wished to create art works for the public to appreciate.

There were over 30 artists, from Thailand and Laos, Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, and Italy. These artists went to visit different places to inspire the people with their creative art works. On August 25-26, they went to study the socio-cultural development at Ban Chiang, Ban Dung Rock Salt Manufacturing, which is a local wisdom source in Udonthani, different places in Nongkhai such as Bang Phuan Relics Monastery and Phu Lon Metallic Ore Ground, etc.

On Monday August 29, 2022, the works of the artists were put on exhibition at the Art Gallery of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, which was officially opened at 13:30 p.m. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University came to preside over the ceremony. Asst. Prof. Burin Plengdeesakul, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts reported about the background of this project. KKU President then welcomed the artists and distinguished guests, with great appreciation of the artists who are dedicated to create the artworks by transferring their emotions and feelings in different aspects for people to see.

Asst. Prof. Burin Plengdeesakul, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts said in his reporting speech, “The ASEAN Contemporary art KKU workshop on “Metal and Salt” is organized to promote collaboration in creating contemporary culture in visual arts and design of the people in Southeast Asia, and other regions. The workshop is for learning and sharing among academics, artists, designers, lecturers, school and university students, and interested public. It enhances experiences in aesthetics from contemporary art and culture, bringing about perspectives and attitudes in creativity. At present the forms and means of creative processes are numerous and interesting, the presentation of which is new. The processes of and creative art works are valuable in terms of academic and the evolution of the works at the regional, national and international levels; and can be incorporated in the learning sources in the form of Art Collection and Art Process Documentary. These will promote learning and skills of the 21st Century and lifelong learning, and will become the information bases for research works of students, professors and the public in general. The exhibition will be ongoing until September 10, 2022. Interested people can visit the gallery to see the works on official days and times without any entry fee.
