Khon Kaen University Hosts Eighth “Im Suk Market” to Foster Community Economy and Link Knowledge to Sustainability

Khon Kaen University continues to advance its role as a “University for Society” with the eighth special edition of the “Siri Market: The Im Suk Market,” held on 1 May 2026. Taking place in front of the Central Administration Division at the Sirikunakorn Building, the event provided a platform for university staff and community enterprise networks in Khon Kaen province to sell high-quality products, generate income, and continually expand their market opportunities.

This initiative was a collaborative effort among several university departments, including the Division of Enterprise and Societal Sustainability, the Office of the President, the Education Quality Development Division, the Central Administration Division, and the Human Resources Division. Together, they developed this “space of opportunity” to connect the university with the community in both economic and social dimensions. The market featured a wide array of vendors, including the Ban Pho Tak Community Enterprise, Chan Dao Salad Farm, and Talad Khiao (Green Market), and also showcased innovative products like Sci Soil from the Faculty of Science. Safe agricultural produce, fresh food, and processed goods were available, drawing a bustling crowd throughout the day.

The “Im Suk Market” serves as more than just a retail space; it is a platform for transferring knowledge, research, and innovation to the community. This helps to enhance product quality and add value, while also promoting the principles of a circular economy for the efficient and sustainable use of resources.

Khon Kaen University has scheduled the special market to take place on the first Friday of every month, with an internal market for staff open on regular working days. This commitment ensures continuous support for entrepreneurs and helps to stimulate the internal economy.

In the context of sustainable development, this activity aligns with SDG 2: Zero Hunger, as it aims to strengthen food security while creating economic opportunities for the community.

Ultimately, the “Im Suk Market” reflects a balanced approach to development that harmoniously links people, knowledge, and community. By generating both economic and social value, it represents another significant step for Khon Kaen University in its mission to grow sustainably alongside the community.
