Faculty of Technology Research on Ancient Iron Smelting Showcased at Thailand Research Expo 2026

The geological study supports the designation of Khon Kaen Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark while advancing sustainable socio-economic development.

The Faculty of Technology at Khon Kaen University (KKU) recently showcased its prominent geological research at the Thailand Research Expo 2026. The research presentation aligned with the event’s central theme, ‘Research Synergy: Creative Research Power for a Sustainable Thai Economy and Society’, highlighting the university’s commitment to outstanding academic contributions.

Held from 22 to 26 June 2026 at the Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld, Bangkok, the exhibition featured the project titled ‘Geological Resources Supporting Ancient Iron Smelting in the Khon Kaen Geopark: Evidence from the Distribution of Ancient Slag’. The research team was led by Assoc. Prof. Vimoltip Singtuen, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Digital and Student Affairs at the Faculty of Technology, alongside research assistants Mr Thatchaphon Seela and Mr Suphakrit Seesaphon. Funded by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), the study was selected for display at the Program Management Unit (PMU) pavilion.

Assoc. Prof. Vimoltip Singtuen, Ph.D. emphasised that the project aims to disseminate comprehensive knowledge regarding geological and archaeological heritage conservation. By integrating advanced science and technology to address complex questions within the fields of humanities and social sciences, the research provides robust academic data to support the official nomination of Khon Kaen Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark.

This achievement underscores the vision of the Faculty of Technology as a leading institution dedicated to driving social and commercial innovation. By producing high-value research that yields tangible and sustainable societal benefits, the project effectively addresses key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in cultural preservation and sustainable community development.

Furthermore, the selection and success of this research project reflect Khon Kaen University’s broader strategic mission to foster social contribution and community engagement. Through creative economy initiatives and impactful academic services, KKU continues to bridge institutional excellence with societal development, ensuring a meaningful and lasting impact on both local communities and the wider society.
