KKU co-hosts the International Conference of Physics Education (ICPE) 2022 with Australia

December 8, 2022 – The Institute for Research and Development of Teaching Profession for ASEAN, Khon Kaen University, as the Thailand host, and the International Commission of Physics Education, University of New South Wales, Australia and University of Mataram,  organized the International Conference of Physics Education 2022 (ICPE 2022). The theme this year was “Physics Education: Preparing for the Future”. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, delivered the opening speech and Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D., Vice President for Education and Academic Service and Acting the Institute’s Director welcomed the participants to the conference. ICPE 2022 was held online at the Institute for Research and Development of Teaching Profession for ASEAN, Khon Kaen University, on December 5-9, 2022. Participants totaled over 300 from 46 countries all over the world.

 

The International Conference of Physics Education (ICPE) 2022 is a stage for academicians, students, lecturers, teachers, and researchers to present and publicize their academic works in physics education, and for them to learn and share their knowledge and experience on the field. There were special talks by internationally known keynote speakers and researchers, training and workshops of various subjects in physics education. Participants were able to establish networks of collaboration among their institutes to conduct research at the international level. More activities were organized onsite and online on December 8-9, 2022.

Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D., welcomed the participants and gave a talk on Open Class innovation. He defined the lesson study and open classroom as follows: “An open classroom is not the best show case of classroom, but a class where one person makes the inspiration for learning together.”

At the conference, there was an example of open class in Physics subject taught by Mr. Pisit Saensuk from Chaiyaphum Technical College. Reflections were made by experts. The participants then exchanged their opinions through different activities such as research techniques for school teachers; a special talk on Thai education during the post-Covid-19, by Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D.; a forum on the trend and direction of Physics teaching at the disruption age; and a special talk on reflection on the workshops at the International Physics Education Conference 2022. There were 79 teachers and students from Phuwiangwittayakom School participating in the activity with 131 educators, and students, and well over 100 online participants.

The International Conference of Physics Education (ICPE) 2022 truly enabled participants to develop themselves and bring the knowledge related to instruction and research on physics education at the international level to apply in their teaching and research work.
