KKU architecture students sweep Hafele Kitchen Design Award 2019

Congratulations on Hafele Kitchen Design Award winning of 5th year students – Ms. Chanit Supannawong and Ms. Kantasorn Lonkuntod

Hafele Thailand gave opportunity to students to show their design ideas expressing Cultural Heritage Design. The ideas needed to highlight the functions of Hafele kinchen products that could match with variety of design, and their design needed to meet the new trend – kitchen was the center of people’s homes. After passing to the final round with 5 teams from Compact Kitchen Design category, KKU students won the 1st and the 2nd prizes.

The winner was “Dek Isan” Team consisting of 5th year students – Ms. Chanit Supannawong and Ms. Kantasorn Lonkuntod – and received 60,000 baht cash prize, a plaque, and certificates. The 1st runner-up was Mr. Pichitchai Sannarong and Mr. Nattawut Kawera, 5th year students from KHONKAEN BOYS Team. The 2nd runner-up was Ms. Siriyaporn Kongudom and Ms. Yanika Sukonbaramee, the 4th year students from LAR-VA Team. The result announcement and award presenting ceremony were held on November 12, 2019 at Hafele Design Studio in Bangkok.

The design of the winner was named Heun Krua Ban Hao – it literally means the kitchen of our homes. This design was developed from Cultural Heritage Design and Family Area Design. The winner had analyzed these two designs, and then combined the ideas with Isan architectural design. The winner claimed that Isan architectural design showed compromising and casual relationship, simplicity, and warmth of the family. The team therefore came up with local Isan concept telling the story of its kitchen which was sustainable and compact because the assigned space was quite small. The design also included the pattern appearing in Isan architecture. The committee selecting this design stated, “The this team shows objectives and clear concept of its kitchen design. They also came up with Isan architecture that they often study about at their university and present it in their design very well and clear.”

The winner from Dek Isan Team spoke on behalf of KKU teams and showed gratitude towards Assoc. Prof. Kunlasri Thungsakul, the project advisor giving advice to the 3 teams and on Isan architecture that could be applied with modern kitchen design. They were also grateful to all architecture lecturers giving very useful advice for this competition.

With perseverance and creativity, the students from the Faculty of Architecture, Khon Kaen University received an honor from winning the 1st-3rd prizes from Hafele Kitchen Design Award 2019.
