IRDTP for ASEAN organizes a seminar for directors of schools included in the project of year 2019 to develop the project further with the experience from professional school administrators transferring knowledge to new schools in this project
Khon Kaen University’s Institute and Research Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Inprasitha – Vice President for Education, Acting Director of Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN, Director of Center for Research in Mathematics Education (CRME), and Leader of the Project of Development of Student’s Mathematics Higher-Order Thinking in the Northeast of Thailand – together with the institute’s administrators, staff, and CRME staff. The institute organized seminar for directors of schools enrolling in the Project of Development of Student’s Mathematics Higher-Order Thinking in the Northeast of Thailand 2019 from August 21-23, 2019 at City Park Hotel, Nakhon Ratchasima.
This activity has continued to the 6th year with objectives to improve students’ mathematics higher-order thinking including attitude towards mathematics, teachers’ knowledge regarding content of curriculum and class management, teaching career, teachers and staff network, and schools with Lesson Study and Open Approach. Moreover, the project allows students, enrolling in 5-year teaching curriculum, graduate students, and teachers to collaborate for professional development with the help of Lesson Study and Open Approach. It also shares innovation for teaching profession development and for teaching at academic institutes.
The results from schools’ performance evaluation revealed that the significant variable to success was the school administrators. In each year, the seminar for director from schools in the Project of Development of Student’s Mathematics Higher-Order Thinking is organized to obtain lesson learned, present their performance, discuss on problems and suggestion from successful schools so that it can be beneficial to directors from new schools attending the project. The objectives of this seminar were to acquire lesson learned, exchange knowledge, develop administrative and work process among model schools, other schools in the project, unity promoting school network, form network of directors from schools in the project, and summarize the performance of schools in this project and ones included in the school network. In 20 provinces in the north and the northeast of Thailand, totally there were 120 schools employing Lesson Study and Open Approach.
On August 22, 2019, it was an honor to have Mr. Pisit Chotking, Director of Nakhon Ratchasima Primary Education Service Area Office 1, presided over the opening ceremony of the seminar. Then the keynote speakers, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Inprasitha – Vice President for Education, Acting Director of Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN, Director of Center for Research in Mathematics Education (CRME), and Leader of the Project of Development of Student’s Mathematics Higher-Order Thinking in the Northeast of Thailand – gave a talk in the topic of “the Development of Education Quality in the 4th Industrial Revolution Age,” and Dr. Watanaporn Ra-ngubtook – Deputy Secretary General, Office of the Education Council and Secretary General of the Teachers’ Council of Thailand – gave a talk on “Creating New Generation Responding to Education of Thailand. ” After that Teacher Jiraporn Promsatia started teaching about triangle in the first session attended by 27 students from Ban Lak Roi School, Nakhon Ratchasima.
Activities on August 23, 2019 from 9 a.m. -12 p.m. were director discussion separated into regions and conducted in the topics of 1. the results of this project, and 2. discussion on problems and solution. The discussion was implemented by directors who were representatives from upper northeastern, lower northeastern, the northern, and southern region.
The seminar on the Project of Development of Student’s Mathematics Higher-Order Thinking for school directors has been organized consecutively for 6 years. In the seminar of this year, there were 105 school directors from different schools included in the nationwide network.
