In an era where digital threats loom larger than ever, Khon Kaen University has taken a bold step forward in fortifying its digital infrastructure. The university’s Office of Digital Technology launched an intensive two-day “Basic Cybersecurity” training program, transforming 100 non-technical staff members into cyber-savvy defenders.
The dynamic training, held at KKU’s Information Center Building on January 30-31, 2025, brought together leading experts in the field. Asst. Prof. Dr. Satit Kravenkit, Assistant Dean for Digital Affairs at the College of Computing, kicked off the program with eye-opening insights into the hidden world of cyber threats. His session revealed the invisible dangers lurking in everyday digital interactions and provided practical strategies for maintaining robust cyber defenses.
The program took an exciting turn when cybersecurity engineer Mr. Patthaphon Phaikhamnam introduced participants to the fascinating world of Digital Forensics. Participants got their hands dirty with real-world tools used by cyber investigators, learning how to recover deleted data and create forensic copies – skills typically reserved for digital detectives.
Adding another layer of expertise, Ms. Suranut Sappaso, a senior computer scientist from the Office of Information Technology, demystified social media security. Her practical demonstrations of two-factor authentication and phishing prevention techniques armed participants with essential skills for the modern digital battlefield.
What set this training apart was its hands-on approach to learning. Participants didn’t just listen – they actively engaged with cutting-edge tools like the Nessus program for vulnerability scanning, gaining practical experience in identifying and addressing potential security breaches.
KKU’s commitment to digital security doesn’t end with this training. The university has established dedicated support channels for ongoing assistance: itsupport@kku.ac.th for social media and application issues, and nsupport@kku.ac.th for network and cybersecurity concerns.
This initiative represents more than just a training program – it’s a strategic move towards creating a culture of cybersecurity awareness at KKU, ensuring that the university’s digital future remains secure in an increasingly connected world.
