In a groundbreaking move to position Thailand at the forefront of artificial intelligence innovation, Khon Kaen University has teamed up with the National AI Development Plan Committee to launch the visionary “Thailand Artificial Intelligence Development Plan 2025-2030.” This strategic initiative was unveiled on November 8, 2024, at the prestigious 28th International Conference on Science, Engineering, and Computing (ICSEC 2024) held at the Pullman Khon Kaen Raja Orchid Hotel.
Spearheading this initiative, Prof. Dr. Sartra Wongthanavasu from the College of Computing at Khon Kaen University, alongside Prof. Dr. Chidchanok Lursinsap, head of the National AI Development Plan Committee, emphasized the critical role of AI in addressing Thailand’s social challenges and driving technological advancement. The launch was further supported by insights from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Krisana Chinnasarn and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ekkarat Boonchieng, who highlighted the plan’s potential to transform Thailand into a leader in AI technology.
The comprehensive AI development plan outlines five strategic pillars designed to revolutionize the nation’s digital landscape:
1. Pioneering New Fundamental Theories: This strategy focuses on developing energy-efficient Tiny AI theories and core AI technologies capable of processing streaming data and multi-modal information, inspired by brain function models.
2. Building Core Technology Systems: The plan aims to advance computational tools, cross-media analysis technologies, group intelligence systems, and autonomous driving technologies.
3. Fostering Innovation Platforms: By developing open-source platforms, intelligent services, databases, and security detection systems, the plan seeks to enhance AI applications across government and business sectors.
4. Cultivating Human Resources: Accelerating the production of high-level AI professionals and developing market-responsive AI curricula are key to this strategy, alongside fostering industry collaboration.
5. Government Recommendations: Establishing a foundational AI research fund, promoting international cooperation, and creating centers of excellence and AI parks are crucial for long-term technological growth.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Nongnuch Ketui, advisor to the Special Committee on AI Technology, received the development plan, underscoring its importance in preparing Thailand for a future dominated by AI advancements.
