The workshop commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Thanadorn Phuttharak, the esteemed Mayor of Udon Thani City, followed by an insightful report from Dr. Methipot Chatameteekul, MD, Director of the Medical Division of Udon Thani City Municipality. The opening ceremony was graced by Dr. Nopparat Pantuset, MD, Director of the National Health Security Office, Region 8 Udon Thani, who set the tone for a day of learning and collaboration at the Municipal School 6 auditorium in Udon Thani City.

Participants, including dedicated health volunteers and officials from Udon Thani City Municipality and surrounding areas, were treated to a compelling lecture by Prof. Dr. Paiboon Sithithaworn, an advisor to the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute. His presentation on “The Relationship Between Liver Fluke Disease and Cholangiocarcinoma and Current Innovations in Liver Fluke Screening” captivated the audience, deepening their understanding of disease mechanisms and the critical role of screening in at-risk populations.

The hands-on segment of the workshop allowed participants to engage in practical exercises, including registering and monitoring at-risk groups and utilizing the OV ATK liver fluke screening test kits. Guided by experts Dr. Chaiwat Tawarungruang and Dr. Pattaraphol Wongphutorn, this training instilled confidence in participants, empowering them to apply their newfound knowledge effectively within their communities.

Prof. Dr. Paiboon Sithithaworn emphasized that this training not only aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of CHVs and related personnel but also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. This initiative underscores the importance of equitable access to quality health services, promoting increased medical service access for at-risk groups, and reducing cholangiocarcinoma incidence in the community. Furthermore, raising awareness about liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma supports Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, fostering collaboration between universities, government agencies, and communities to build a robust health promotion network.

“Khon Kaen University envisions this training as a catalyst for community knowledge and skill enhancement, paving the way for future prevention and risk reduction of cholangiocarcinoma,” stated Prof. Paiboon. “We are committed to expanding this training, empowering participants to become leaders in disseminating knowledge and supporting sustainable community health.”

This initiative not only enriches public understanding of health issues but also elevates the overall quality of life within the community. Khon Kaen University remains steadfast in its mission to collaborate with all sectors, striving to create a healthy and sustainable society for the future.
