KKU holds a big event where 42 institutions join, with an aim to enhance Generative AI in educational services and registration system

July 11-12, 2024 at Khon Kaen Pulman Raja Orchid Hotel – Khon Kaen University organized a seminar of the network of educational services and registration system. There were 350 participants attending from 42 academic institutions all over the country. The seminar topic was: “New Challenges: Educational Services and Registration System to Support Graduate Production and Human Resource Development”, based on Generative AI. Additionally, the seminar aimed at extending collaboration in educational services and registration system among the institutions. It is the first step in promoting collaboration among institutions and officers in this regard.


The opening session started at 9:15 a.m., with Asst. Prof. Piyawat Saipan, Ph.D., Director of the Office of Academic Development and Administration, Khon Kaen University, giving the reporting speech. Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee, Ph.D., Vice President for Education and Digital delivered the opening address. This was followed by a special talk on “Before the Issuance of Skill Transcript by Assoc. Prof. Bandit Tipakorn, Ph.D., Advisor to the President for Learning Innovations, King Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi; and another special talk on, “Generative AI and Educational Service and Registration System” by Prof. Wanida Kaen-akat, Ph.D., a lecturer of the Department of Computer Engineering and Deputy Director of the Artificial Intelligence Engineering Institute, Khon Kaen University. The last activity in the morning session was the presentation on, “Bridging the Technology Gap in the Registrar’s Office: China Context” by Asst. Prof. Noptanit Chotisarn, Ph.D., Deputy Director for Digital and Service Innovation, Registration Office, Thammasat University. Before closing the session, the Office of Academic Development and Administration, Khon Kaen University, presented Mr. Smile Innovation, developed by Assoc. Prof. Wararat Songpaen, Deputy Director for Information Technology and Digital Innovation. Mr. Smile is a robot that detects the feeling of customers at the service counter.

Asst. Prof. Piyawat Saipan, Ph.D., Director of the Office of Academic Development and Administration, Khon Kaen University, reported that the two major objectives of this seminar were to promote learning through the talks by the experts for awareness of the directions in higher education development and to produce and develop the country’s manpower according to the policy of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, by using modern technology such as Generative AI in the work to meet the change of learning context and environment one should realize. Besides, the seminar is the beginning point for promoting collaboration is educational service and registration system among the institutions and operating officers.

Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee, Ph.D., Vice President for Education and Digital said in his opening address that the educational service and registration system are the major supporting systems the information from which all academic institutions have to use in the administration and decision making on genuine database. Within the two days of the seminar, participants would be acknowledged about the information support for the higher educational plans in producing manpower of the country according to the policy of MHESI; and the smart use of modern technologies in the work, from the special talks of distinguished speakers and from the learning and sharing among the network members and groups. This would enhance learning and good opportunities for development of working processes, sharing of resources, and deploying of good practices together in the future, which would benefit the students, institutions and development of educational services and registration system.

The first day of the seminar, besides the special talks by the 3 distinguished speakers, also featured small group learning and sharing. Participants were divided into 4 groups and were assigned the topics as follows: Group 1: How to design effective information for service provision, administration and decision making? (scope of content: how is information analyzed and used at present? how is big amount of information sent internally and externally? what is the good governance of application for safety?) Group 2: Lifelong Education and challenges of the registration system that meets the needs of future learners (scope of content: transfer of academic results of lifelong education at the undergraduate/ graduate level, transcript, credit accumulation and credit bank) Group 3: Future Admissions (scope of content: learning together when the number of newborns reduces, which information style is preferred by the new gen? how to check graduating students’ qualifications in the future checking?) Group 4: Academic and Service Innovations (scope of content: development of system and innovation use for education services).

On the second day, there was a special talk by Prof. Supachai Patumnakul, Ph.D., Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation on, “Policy for Graduate Production and Manpower of the Country and Expectation towards Educational Service and Registration System of Universities” and the presentation of the conclusions from the learning and sharing of the 4 groups above. At 12:00 p.m., the Director of the Office of Academic Development and Administration, Khon Kaen University gave the closing address.


There were 42 institutions including Khon Kaen University joining this seminar and 350 participants. It was a good chance for exchanging of innovations, ideas and problem solutions related to service and registration system, which would benefit the quality of education in Thailand. More importantly, the seminar is the beginning point for collaboration in educational services and registration system among institutions and officers. Resources could now be shared with good practices deployed, leading to students’ benefits.
