KKU holds a glorification event for Isan heritage artists on the occasion of the 2024 Thai Heritage Conservation Day and to also honor HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn

Tuesday April 2, 2023 – Khon Kaen University Art and Cultural Center held a glorification event for Isan heritage artists and those with notable cultural relation works, on the occasion of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Birthday and the 2024 Thai Heritage Conservation Day. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University presided over the ceremony, which was attended by the awarded artists and distinguished guests at the Auditorium, Khon Kaen University Science Park.


The ceremony began at 13:30 hours, with Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University firstly delivered a speech to glorify HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, followed by Mo Lam Chaweewan Phanthu, a 1993 National Artist singing a well wish song with Mr. Pongsatorn Uppani (On Khaen Khiaw) playing the Khaen.


The awarding ceremony for the Isan Heritage artists has been held to conserve the c ultural relation of individuals, groups, and organizations having carried out art, cultural, religious and traditional works. This ceremony is a mission of Khon Kaen University to succeed and disseminate art and cultural knowledge to both community networks inside and outside the University as well as in the Mekong Sub-region. The other objectives are to create academic collaboration, products and academic services with economic values.


The project began in 2005 to honor, support and encourage the said individuals, groups, and organizations to continue and sustainably create their works for the society. This is an extension of works in science, technologies, and health sciences, of which Khon Kaen University has clear policy for the evident work outcomes that benefit Thai and international societies. From 2005 to 2024, there have been individuals, groups, and organizations receiving the awards as follows: 14 awardees of Amora Silapin, 197 awardees of Isan Heritage Artists, 210 awardees of those with notable cultural relation works. The criteria and regulations for awarding are well clarified, through the process and committee members, undergoing nomination from private organizations, individuals, and relevant organizations to the screening process and finally to be judged by the committee. The names of awardees are then announced by the President of Khon Kaen University.
