Law Division, KKU, trains staff on PDPA to enhance their knowledge of law about personal data protection

March 12, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. – Administrators and staff of Khon Kaen University were trained on “Personal Data Protection Law under the Personal Data Protection Act 2019”. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University opened the training while Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee, Ph.D., Vice President for Digital gave the reporting speech. Khun Panarat In-nga, Director of the PDPC Law and Regulations from the Office of Personal Data Protection and Asst. Prof. Theethat Chavischinda, Ph.D., were the distinguished trainers. A lot of attendants were from different departments and organizations in Khon Kaen University, both administrators and staff, both online and onsite, totaling over 200 people.


Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University said that Khon Kaen University received this important opportunity in enhancing the personnel’s knowledge and understanding of personal data protection law according to the Personal Data Protection Act 2019. Now, they would be able to efficiently apply the knowledge in their personal data management system and so there will be the measure for preventing illegal actions. As reported by the Vice President for Digital, personal data protection law is the law that the University should be aware of and see as important, for Khon Kaen University is a governmental university and is governed by the law. The personal data protection law and the Personal Data Protection Act rule over the storage, filing, usage and revelation of personal data. The rights of the owner of the personal data are also involved, together with the punishment if the law is violated. The illegal act is subject to civil liability where compensation is required, for it violates criminal and administrative law. The fine is also very high.


“The training to enhance knowledge and understanding of personal data protection law under the Personal Data Protection Act 2019 is very important for the administration and work of relevant administrators and officers of Khon Kaen University. The knowledge and understanding would lead to law conformation and hence no problem will arise, and complaints or disputes emerging from personnel operations would be decreased. The work regarding personal data protection in the university would be under the intention of the law and the related regulations of Khon Kaen University. Faculties and institutions in the university would become aware of the importance in protection of personal data and take precautions in their operations. The storage, usage, compilation, and revelation of personal data in Khon Kaen University would therefore be in legal order in the long run.”
