KKU Demonstration School Open House – teaching innovations through the surrounding and promoting Project-Based Learning for the 21st Century

February 22, 2024 – Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Kindergarten Section held the Open House Innovator – 14 Best Activities for Children. Ajarn Prapaporn Jantaburom, Deputy Director of Khon Kaen University Demonstration School delivered the reporting speech to Assoc. Prof. Issara Kanjug, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Education, who gave the opening address. The opening session, which took place at the Multipurpose Building of the Demonstration School, was attended by kindergarten pupils, parents, and teachers.

The Open House Innovator – 14 Best Activities for Children featured showcases of Innovator Design Process instruction with problem-based learning. This is integrated with various instructional methods and innovations as the learning bases, which correspond to the 21st Century and will enable kindergarten kids to learn by themselves in the future.

Following are the different innovative instruction methods: “We Conserve Water”, “LAND OF EGGS” or Brain-Based Learning; learning via playing and having fun with clay through the Play-Based Learning Approach to develop Scientific and Innovative Skills; Arts-Based Learning on “A world of Toys”; Design Thinking Instruction Process; Game-based Learning on “Children Playground”; Creative Learning Spiral under the topic: “Diligent Ants”; and Play-Based Learning on “Into the Sea”.

Ajarn Prapaporn Jantaburom, Deputy Director of Khon Kaen University Demonstration School explained that the Open House Innovator – 14 Best Activities for Children of the Academic Year 2023 was aimed at 1) promoting knowledge, thinking, basic innovator skills; 2) creating courage in expressing through presentation of classroom activities; 3) presenting teachers; and students’ educational innovations and academic activities, which were exhibited at the booths; and 4) learning and sharing of experiences in educational innovation construction among school teachers in Khon Kaen.

Assoc. Prof. Issara Kanjug, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University said that the Open House activities promotes and encourages pupils to develop knowledge, basic skills of innovators; promotes creative thinking and courage in expressing through presentation of classroom activities; and to enable teachers to design at least one innovation-based learning activity according to their aptitude. The Open House also leads to development of learners at the fullest extent; promotes the pupils and teachers to present the teaching and learning outcomes; and is the venue for learning and sharing as the learning community.

The Open House Innovator – 14 Best Activities for Children was scheduled on February 22-23, 2024. The second day activities included learning through relation of the story of The Fun Village that enhanced Creative Innovator skill, in which the instruction was based on storyline; development of board game for primary kids to promote thinking skill based on high-scope instruction on the topic: “The Jungle Development of Educational Board Games for Early Childhood to Improve Thinking Skill in Classroom” for Kindergarten 1 and 2. Parents and the public were able to observe the activities by registration in front of the venue.
