From July 20th to 21st, 2023,The inaugural Southeast Asia Confucius Institutes Joint Conference, themed ‘Coordinated Innovation for Steady Progress’ , was successfully held in Beijing. The conference was organized by the China International Education Foundation. Over 250 participants, including directors and representatives from Confucius Institutes in 10 Southeast Asian countries, as well as leaders from partner universities in China and abroad, attended this grand event to collaboratively discuss and share ideas for the coordinated development of Confucius Institutes.
The joint conference encompassed an opening ceremony, expert forums, case sharing sessions, group discussions, and a closing ceremony. Invited by the foundation, Dr. Acharawan, assistant to the president of Khon Kaen University, gave a case study titled ‘Strengthening the Collaboration and Cooperation of All Parties to Help the Development of the Confucius Institute’ and ‘Confucius Institute (Classroom) Development Alliance in Thailand’ at the conference. It introduced in detail how Chinese and Thai cooperative universities of the Confucius Institute at Khon Kaen University guided and boosted the collaborative development of the Confucius Institute through top-level design and practical measures, as well as the original intention, mission, and major collaborative innovations of the establishment of the Confucius Institute (Classroom) Development Alliance in Thailand Development activities and results, etc. Dr. Acharawan’s sharing received warm applause from the participants.
During the conference, Dr. Acharawan also accepted an interview from People’s Daily (Overseas Edition), and introduced the ‘Chinese +’ program carried out by the Confucius Institute at Khon Kaen University and the joint undergraduate dual-degree training program carried out by Chinese and Thai cooperative universities. And other far-reaching brand project operation experience.
At this inaugural Southeast Asia Confucius Institutes Joint Conference, four universities hosting Confucius Institutes were invited to share their experiences in coordinated institute development. Dr. Acharawan, Assistant to the President, was invited for this case sharing session and interview , which serves as recognition for the efforts, guidance, and support provided by both Chinese and Thai partner universities for the work of Confucius Institute at Khon Kaen University . The entire faculty and staff of the Confucius Institute will take this as inspiration to stay true to their original aspirations, remember their mission, and continue their journey with determination.
