KKU holds the Art Lane # 19 Festival

Friday July 1, 2022 – Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Khon Kaen University held the Art Lane # 19 Festival at the White Bridge, Khon Kaen University. This event marked the 19th time it has been organized. The purpose is to emphasize academic works on the road sides. The works belong to the students of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts and the event was cooperated by the network inside and outside the university. The event this year began at 18:00 p.m. and was honored to have Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University to preside over the opening ceremony. Many deans of different faculties also attended this opening session. Asst. Prof. Burin Plengdeesakul, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts delivered the reporting speech about the objectives of the festival. After the festival was declared officially open, tokens of appreciation were given to the President and the network representatives. The opening ceremony ended with group photographing.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, who presided over the opening session, said that the festival, which was the 19th time, demonstrates the determination of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts in bringing the academic works of the students from classrooms to the roadside, turning it into a venue for art and creativity in all forms. Khon Kaen University always supports this project as it is important to have a venue for creative activities that promote and add values to works of art. The festival is also the center for academic learning where the network inside and outside the university as well as universities in the Northeast can join, proving the place as the real art-learning center of the region.

Asst. Prof. Burin Plengdeesakul, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts mentioned in his reporting speech, “This festival is supported by Khon Kaen University and many other organizations. We also receive cooperation from lecturers, students, staff and alumni. The objectives are to publicize the art works of the students and lecturers, together with creators who have researched and integrated the knowledge of arts and put it into the exhibitions of academic works on the roadside. The exhibition is divided into 2 parts, the first is the creative academic works, about the instruction of different programs of the Faculty. The second part is the creative occupations that emphasize the works of professional artists, singers, and actors.”

Asst. Prof. Preechawut Apirating, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Art, Culture and Creative Economy, and the Chairman of the Festival organizers added, “Art Lane is the combination of the word ‘Art’ that means art works or creative works, and ‘Lane’ that means road. The Faculty offers 2 main programs, the first is visual arts and design of communication arts, and the second is music and performance. Both programs are divided into smaller fields such as painting, prints, sculpture, photography, animation, product design, Thai classical music, international music, and many others. The Art Lane at the white bridge is another channel and means to publicize the works of the students to the public.”

The highlight or the exhibition of artworks from the beginning of the bridge to the end comprised all art works that did not all belong to the Faculty. They had been compiled from the network inside and outside the university, the communities, the underprivileged from the prison, and the disabled. There were booths selling different items, fashion show from the Faculty of Architecture under the title, .Colorful Fashion & Special Ones For Art Lane”, creative lane, hand-made goods, portrait drawing, Thai musical show, international musical show, and more.

On the same day before the event began, at 14:00 p.m., the visual arts and communication art design held a house opening activity. Asst. Prof. Burin Plengdeesakul, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts presented an opening address. The activity featured compilation of the works of the students in the field of visual arts and communication art design of different years, house models, students’ work exhibition, movie show, photographing in the studio, digital drawing and Bomb Space activity or drawing together on a show locker.
