KKU publicizes the outcome of a research study: “Mo Lam and Isan people’s economy, social and health conditions”, which leads to cultural survival under social changes; and shows the digital Mo Lam model

March 21, 2022 at Convention Room 3, Avani Hotel and Convention Center – An event was held to publicize the outcomes of a research study: “Mo Lam and Isan people’s economy, social and health conditions”, which was a joint project conducted by the Faculty of Economics and College of Local Administration, Khon Kaen University. The research was under the strategic plan on social Spearhead – Thai 4.0, supported by the National Research Council. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul,  M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, presided over the opening session and gave an opening address.

Asst. Prof. Siwaporn Fongthong, Ph.D., head of the research project: “Mo Lam and Isan people’s economy, social and health conditions”

Asst. Prof. Siwaporn Fongthong, Ph.D., head of the research project reported that a team of lecturers of the Faculty of Economics and College of Local Administration had conducted a research study on “Mo Lam and Isan people’s economy, social and health conditions”. The research was under the strategic plan on social Spearhead – Thai 4.0, supported by the National Research Council. The objectives of this research were to study the culture of Isan local performance or Mo Lam under the socio-economic and technological changes and the business transformation of Mo Lam to survive under the present-day society; and to analyze the needs of Mo Lam audience in order to adjust the design, the service, and the business for competitive ability in the future. The event was organized to publicize the outcomes of the research study and to propose the design of a performance model from the research result, which will demonstrate the importance of cultural Mo Lam in the creative economy.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul,  M.D., President of Khon Kaen University opened the event, which was held both online and onsite that he was honored and pleased to preside over the opening event of the research presentation, which was conducted by the Faculty of Economics and College of Local Administration, Khon Kaen University. “This work is something to be proud of, for it shows that Khon Kaen University has teams of quality researchers who are able to study and create research outcomes for the benefits of the society according to the goal of Khon Kaen University. It is hoped that the presentation of the outcomes of the research study on: “Mo Lam and Isan people’s economy, social and health conditions” today would assist in driving forward the cultural creative economy. The project has truly created new ideas that will upgrade Mo Lam business and makes Isan the great region of Mo Lam in the future.”

The overture by Mo Lam Udomsin and Mo Khaen On Khaenkhiaw

After the opening session, the event began with an overture by Mo Lam Udomsin and Mo Khaen On Khaenkhiaw, followed by the presentation of the research result by Asst. Prof. Siwaporn Fongthong, Ph.D., head of the research project and a talk on “Mo Lam and the design of services to meet the market demand (service design)” by Asst. Prof. Prasert Wijitnopparat, one of the researchers; and another talk on “Mo Lam and the Change of Isan Society” by Asst. Prof. Sirisak Laochankham, Ph.D., another researcher in the team. After the talks, there was another performance on “From Common Mo Lam to Digital Mo Lam: The Soft Power of Esan” by Mo Lam artists who participated in the event.

The event was also attended by Assoc. Prof. Peerasit Khamnuansil, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Local Administration and administrators, lecturers and researchers from the Faculty of Economics and College of Local Administration, Khon Kaen University; Assoc. Prof. Supawatanakorn Wongtanawasu, Ph.D., Acting Director of Innovation Research Support, the Administration and Local Development Funding Management of the National Policy Council of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation; Director of Khon Kaen University Cultural Center; representatives from some organizations such as representatives from Thai 4.0 Planning, National Research Council, Khon Kaen Cultural Office, Udonthani Cultural Office, the Northeast National Bank, Thailand Radio Station Khon Kaen; and independent academics in culture, heads of Mo Lam groups and news correspondents.

Asst. Prof. Sirisak Laochankham, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Administration, College of Local Administration, a project researcher, gave a talk on “Mo Lam and the Change of Isan Society”.
