Friday September 17, 2021, 15:30 p.m., at Sirikunakorn Room 3, Sirikunakorn Building, Khon Kaen University – the Academic Development and Administration Bureau of Khon Kaen University held a press release session for the opening of the “Northeastern Thailand Scholastic Aptitude Test Center” (NETSAT). Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University and the Advisor of the Center’s Administrative Committee presided over the event. The President also gave a talk on “NETSAT for Education Transformation”. The President’s talk was continued by two talks on “How to Measure NETSAT?” by Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D., Vice President for Education of Khon Kaen University and the Advisor of the Northeastern Thailand Scholastic Aptitude Test Center and “Preparation for NETSAT Test” by Assoc. Prof. Prapansak Chaweerach, Ph.D., Director of the Academic Development and Administration Bureau of Khon Kaen University. Among key participants at the event were Asst. Prof. Daranee Hormdee, Ph.D., Manager of the Northeastern Thailand Scholastic Aptitude Test Center and Asst. Prof. Natthaphat Anantheerakul, Assistant to the President for Education and Academic Services.
Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University and the Advisor of the Center’s Administrative Committee said that the Northeastern Thailand Scholastic Aptitude Test Center has been established to develop the test methods that will measure intellectual and learning competency of high school students in the Northeast in order to prepare for entering university. The test center will also have indirect effect on the improvement and development of schools’ instruction that is changing towards the system that aims more at the competency of students rather than only rote learning. The school system, when altered, will take an important part in propelling the whole country’s education that will now be based on thinking skill. When university students have graduated, they will be able to take a leading role in social development and create technologies and innovations for the country. One more aim is the promotion of all programs to set the requisite competency for their graduates. In this respect, the teaching and learning process must emphasize on instilling the new era skills among students.
The Northeastern Thailand Scholastic Aptitude Test Center is established under the vision to be a leading test center for learning smartness of the country. It will measure the intellect and ability in learning of high-school students to get ready for continuing their studies in university. The center is expected to have impact on the instructional approaches and methods used in high schools that will in turn lead to transformation towards competency-based instructional, measurement and evaluation methods.
The event was also attended by honorable guests from Mahasarakham University, Ubon Ratchathani University, Nakhonpanom University and mass media reporters. The press release was also broadcast online via different websites which were being watched by over 1,000 school teachers, administrators, parents and school students.
