Royal Thai Air Force Nam Phong Unit Strengthens Academic Ties with Khon Kaen University to Drive Research and National Security Innovation

KHON KAEN, Thailand – On Tuesday, 23 December 2025, at the Meeting Room, Office of the President, Khon Kaen University, Group Captain Pisit Thepsuwan, Commander of the Royal Thai Air Force Nam Phong Unit, Khon Kaen, led a delegation to meet with Associate Professor Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University. The meeting, which included executives from the Faculty of Engineering and the Khon Kaen Chapter of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), aimed to discuss strategic collaboration in research and innovation to support national security.

The primary objective of the discussion was to establish a strategic cooperation framework between national security agencies and leading Thai higher education institutions. The partnership emphasises the integration of Khon Kaen University’s academic, research, and technological strengths with the operational needs and strategic objectives of the Royal Thai Air Force.

The collaboration focuses on several key dimensions:

  • Technological Innovation: Jointly studying and developing advanced technologies that align with emerging global security trends.
  • Human Capital Development: Enhancing the knowledge and skills of personnel through shared expertise.
  • Industrial Integration: Leveraging the network of the Federation of Thai Industries to transition research and innovation into practical production and application, thereby creating economic value and strengthening domestic industrial potential.

      This initiative marks a significant milestone in building a robust alliance to enhance the nation’s technological and innovative capabilities. By fostering home-grown solutions, the partnership promotes national self-reliance and supports long-term, sustainable security.

In attendance from the university were senior administrators, including Associate Professor Ratchaphon Suntivarakorn, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, who will play a pivotal role in overseeing the technical implementation of this collaborative framework.
