
On 8 December 2025, Khon Kaen University (KKU), represented by Associate Professor Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, and Professor Thidarut Boonmars, D.V.M., Ph.D., Vice President for Enterprise and Societal Sustainability, welcomed the Parliamentary Committee on Energy of the House of Representatives. The delegation was led by Dr. Kittisak Khanasawat, First Vice Chairman of the Committee, and visited KKU to study the university’s role in researching and developing electric power and battery energy. The meeting was held in the University Council Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Sirikunakorn Building, Office of the President.

Associate Professor Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., delivered the welcoming address. Following this, Professor Thidarut Boonmars presented an overview of the university’s role in driving research and innovation in next-generation energy, including advancements in electricity and battery technology that respond to national demands. Her presentation highlighted KKU’s profound knowledge base, innovations translated into practical application, and its production of quality personnel to support the rapidly growing energy industry.

Subsequently, a presentation was delivered by Associate Professor Nongluk Mithong, Ph.D., Director of the Battery and Next-Generation Energy Factory. Dr. Nongluk detailed the university’s development of battery technology, covering the entire research chain up to real-world industrial application. She also outlined the foundational ecosystem being established to support the long-term sustainable clean energy industry.

Following the presentations, the Parliamentary Committee on Energy toured the Battery and Next-Generation Energy Factory. Dr. Yuttanakorn Kanapan, Head of Sales and Marketing, along with his team, welcomed the delegation and showcased the products and services of “kkUVolts.” kkUVolts is KKU’s enterprise brand dedicated to manufacturing high-quality Thai battery technology.

- The role of kkUVolts as a university enterprise unit.
- The production and distribution of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Batteries for electric golf carts, electric motorcycles, and small backup batteries.
- Customised battery pack design services for commercial and industrial sectors.
- Quality and safety standards for applications ranging from the medical, military, and transport sectors to smart grid systems.
- Services in product development, research, testing, and professional training in energy.

kkUVolts remains committed to developing safe, internationally standardised battery technology to support accessible clean energy, strengthen the nation’s industry and innovation, and play a crucial role in mitigating climate change impacts through next-generation energy solutions tailored to Thai society and economy.
This study visit underscores Khon Kaen University’s distinct role as a regional university driving research, innovation, and technology for society. It clearly supports sustainable development, particularly SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). These goals are central to propelling the Thai energy system toward a secure, environmentally friendly future that delivers sustainable value back to society and communities.
