On September 23, 2025, the Microbiology Analytical Laboratory within the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University (KKU), commenced an assessment for ISO/IEC 17025:2017 international standard. This evaluation, conducted by the Bureau of Laboratory Quality Standards (BLQS) under the Department of Medical Sciences, aims to elevate the laboratory’s capabilities and achieve international recognition.
Associate Professor Dr. Teerasak Somdee, Head of the Department of Microbiology, chaired the opening meeting for the assessment. Assistant Professor Dr. Polsan Mahakhan, Associate Professor Dr. Viyada Mongkolthanaruk, and other relevant staff from the department were in attendance. This initial on-site assessment is scheduled to take place from September 23 to 25, 2025.
The assessment team comprises two experts from the BLQS: Pharmacist Suwanna Jarunuch (retired high-level director), who serves as the lead assessor, and Mrs. Ladaphan Saengklai (retired medical scientist expert), who is the technical assessor.
The primary objective of this ISO/IEC 17025:2017 assessment is to enhance the laboratory’s capacity to provide accurate, precise, and highly reliable analytical services. This initiative seeks to build confidence among service users and significantly improve the laboratory’s operational efficiency, truly positioning it at an international standard.
