On August 18, 2025, Khon Kaen University officially launched the “KKU EGGS Lounge (Egg Nest)” under the theme “Full Stomach, Warm Heart at KKU.” The project marks a significant step in promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 2: Zero Hunger and Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. The initiative creates a shared space where food is provided free of charge, ensuring that all students have access to sufficient and nutritious meals, while turning KKU’s sustainability policies into concrete action.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Pensri Jaroenwanit, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Affairs and Innovation Commercialization, and was also attended by Prof. Thidarut Boonmars, D.V.M., Ph.D., Vice President for Enterprise and Societal Sustainability. Key private sector partners joined the event, led by Mr. Prem Supboonlert, Sustainability and Corporate Relations Activity Manager, Northeastern Region, CP Axtra Public Company Limited, together with branch managers from Lotus’s outlets across Khon Kaen Province. The ceremony was held at the Student Affairs and Alumni Relation Division and was joined by KKU executives, staff, students, and alumni.
Assoc. Prof. Pensri explained that the KKU EGGS Lounge, initiated by the Division of Student Affairs and Alumni Relations under the Office of Student Affairs and Innovation Commercialization, was established to address the well-being of students through several objectives. These include alleviating living costs by providing essential food items such as boiled eggs, bread, milk, and fruit; promoting healthy nutrition; cultivating a culture of sharing within the university community; reducing food waste by efficiently managing surplus contributions from supporters; and advancing SDGs in hunger eradication and health promotion.
She added that the project represents more than just giving—it is about building a sustainable ecosystem of sharing. “KKU prioritizes the well-being of our students. The ‘KKU EGGS Lounge’ is a commitment to ensure that no one is left behind. It reflects our determination to create a caring and resilient community, and I extend my gratitude to our partners, alumni, and all supporters who have joined hands to make this initiative possible.”
The launch event was filled with a warm and supportive atmosphere, showcasing the strong collaboration between the university, alumni, and private partners. A tree-planting activity was also held as a symbol of growth and the shared commitment to sustainability within the university.
The KKU EGGS Lounge began operations on August 18, 2025, and now provides free food to students every weekday from 8:30 a.m. until supplies run out, at the front area of the Student Affairs and Alumni Relation Division. The project invites contributions from supporters, entrepreneurs, and alumni in the form of dry food, fresh food, or essential items to ensure its long-term sustainability.
