KKU Showcases “AI for Health” on the Global Stage at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan

From July 17 to 28, 2025, Khon Kaen University, led by Prof. Thidarut Boonmars, D.V.M., Ph.D., Vice President for Enterprise and Societal Sustainability, together with a team of researchers and innovation developers, participated in the World Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The exhibition took place in Osaka under the theme “AI for Health in the New Era: From Thainess to the Digital World,” featured during Theme Week 5: Learning and Playing, which focuses on edutainment through cutting-edge technologies such as AI, VR, AR, and the Metaverse.

This year, Khon Kaen University presented health knowledge through innovative showcases that creatively integrate “Thainess” with the digital world. The exhibition was designed for close audience interaction and divided into three main zones:

1. Health & Performance Check Zone

By Dr. Wiraphong Sucharit
Provides preliminary screening and risk assessment for sarcopenia using the SARC-F Questionnaire and Handgrip Strength test. Visitors receive personalized exercise recommendations to promote muscle building and proper maintenance.

2. Metaverse & English Learning for the Thai Film Industry

By Mr. Nattapong Tangsathienrapap and Mr. Pongpisit Deesaraphan
Features a Virtual Film Studio on the Metaverse, where participants can practice English through 10 interactive lessons with mini-games and quizzes. The system uses Hand Tracking technology for an engaging and immersive learning experience. The project is supported by the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness Enhancement (PMU-C). Visitors also receive a special souvenir: a Thai language textbook for foreigners, covering four languages—Thai, English, Chinese, and Japanese—authored by Assoc. Prof. Orathai Pieayura, Ph.D., the writer of Thai for Foreigners.

3. AI CPR & Emergency Response Zone

By Asst. Prof. Saiyan Saiyod, Ph.D.
Showcases “CPRobot,” a CPR training manikin made from Thai rubber and integrated with smart features using Signal Processing and Machine Learning technologies. Visitors can practice realistic CPR skills and receive a commemorative gift after completing the basic training.

Khon Kaen University’s participation in this global event demonstrates its strong commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on good health and well-being, quality education, innovation and infrastructure, and global partnerships for sustainable development. By integrating cutting-edge technology with academic expertise, KKU aims to improve quality of life and learning on an international scale.
