The Faculty of Architecture at Khon Kaen University proudly congratulates Mr. Chayanan Chinnawong, a fifth-year student in the Architecture program, for winning the Honorary Mention (Architectural Category) at the AYDA International Awards Summit 2025 held in Japan. He represented Thailand with his project titled “Grow from the earth… Return to the earth.”
This award-winning design, “Grow from the earth… Return to the earth,” reflects a deeply rooted vision for sustainability and environmental consciousness. It showcases the mindset of a new generation of architects who prioritize community context and environmental harmony.
“This project aims to promote sustainability in both lifestyle and occupation,” Chayanan explained. “It integrates architectural design with local materials and master planning based on a holistic sugarcane production process. Agricultural waste is repurposed to reduce air pollution caused by burning and to offer a more sustainable alternative for the planet.”
This achievement goes beyond creativity—it is the result of meticulous preparation under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Kulsri Tangsakul and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noppadol Tangsakul. Great care was taken in crafting the script, translating it into English, refining the content for clarity and conciseness, and rehearsing the presentation for nearly a month to ensure effective communication on pressing global issues.
“Representing Thailand on a global stage for the first time means more to me than just winning,” Chayanan shared. “It was an unforgettable experience—exchanging ideas with peers from various countries, building international friendships, and gaining unique insights that can’t be found elsewhere.”
The Honorary Mention is a prestigious recognition of the talent and potential of students from KKU’s Faculty of Architecture, affirming their ability to compete on the world stage and bringing pride to Thailand. This milestone is expected to open doors of opportunity for other students and inspire future generations of designers to follow in his footsteps. It also reflects the high standard of education and capabilities of Thai students in the global arena.
