18 May 2026 — At the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was formally signed with the Faculty of Education, Shaanxi Normal University, People’s Republic of China. This partnership focuses on the development of a prototype curriculum, ‘AI, Robotics in STEAM Education for K–12,’ spanning from kindergarten to upper secondary level. Assoc. Prof. Issara Kanjug, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Education, alongside the executive committee, co-signed the agreement with Prof. Sen Li (李森), Dean of the Faculty of Education, Shaanxi Normal University, to develop an integrated learning framework that connects thinking processes, core content, technology, and modern learning tools, while promoting lifelong learning and sustainable development.
Speaking on the strategic direction of the collaboration, Assoc. Prof. Kanjug stated that this partnership marks an important strategic step for the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, in developing innovative curricula tailored to the demands of the future. It aims to equip school-level learners with essential competencies in artificial intelligence, robotics, creative engineering, systems thinking, problem-solving, and innovative design relevant to future industries. This initiative reflects a policy commitment to moving Thai education from ‘learning to know’ towards ‘learning to create the future,’ bridging schools, universities, research, technology, and future industries. The goal is to prepare Thai learners as high-quality contributors in an AI- and innovation-driven world, in line with the vision to be a leading faculty of education in ASEAN, with a focus on educational innovation for sustainable development.
The curriculum’s core strength lies in its progressive learning design across all educational levels. It begins with establishing logical thinking foundations and technology exploration in early childhood, progressing to the design of AI and robotics innovations to solve real-world problems at upper secondary level. It also integrates the STEAM Education framework into the context of modern human resource development, ensuring learners understand science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics and their practical applications.
By co-developing this prototype curriculum with Shaanxi Normal University, a leading Chinese institution with recognised expertise in educational technology, the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, is the first institution in the country to advance this educational model. This initiative reinforces the Faculty’s role as a centre for curriculum innovation and future-oriented learning at both national and regional level.
In the initial phase, the curriculum will be piloted during the current semester at the Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, including both KKUDS and KKUIDS. This pilot will establish a systematic model for managing AI, Robotics, and STEAM Education before scaling up to network schools nationwide in a subsequent phase. Schools interested in joining the development network for the ‘AI, Robotics in STEAM Education for K–12’ curriculum are welcome to contact the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, in due course.
