Khon Kaen University (KKU) co-hosts the international TBRN 2026 conference, “Decode the Nature, Design the Future,” to advance Thai bioinformatics and drive national research and innovation.

The National Phenome Institute, Khon Kaen University, served as a co-host for the 3rd Thailand Bioinformatics Research Network Conference 2026 (TBRN 2026) under the theme “Decode the Nature, Design the Future.” This international academic conference brought together researchers, experts, and network partners from both within Thailand and abroad to exchange knowledge in bioinformatics and biological data science. The event also aimed to foster collaboration, develop human resources, and lay the groundwork for the nation’s biological data infrastructure for the future.

The National Phenome Institute, the Graduate School, the Faculty of Medicine, the College of Computing, and the Faculty of Engineering at Khon Kaen University, in collaboration with the Thai Bioinformatics Association, cohosted the 3rd Thailand Bioinformatics Research Network (TBRN) Conference 2026. Held under the theme “Decode the Nature | Design the Future”, the conference took place from 10 to 12 June 2026 at Orchid Ballroom 2, The Heritage Grand Khon Kaen Hotel and Convention, Khon Kaen Province. The conference functions as a national platform connecting researchers, experts, faculty members, students, and representatives from research agencies and the public, private, and industrial sectors to exchange knowledge and help set the future direction of bioinformatics in Thailand.

The opening ceremony was held on 10 June 2026. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, delivering a welcome speech. Prof. Dr. Damneinsant Prueksakor, President of the Thai Society for Bioinformatics, reported on the objectives of the event, and Dr. Viparat Dee-ong, Director of the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), officially opened the conference. More than 170 researchers, faculty members, students, and representatives from various organisations attended.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., observed that the conference, held under the theme ‘Decode the Nature, Design the Future’, reflects the role of bioinformatics in integrating knowledge from biology, medicine, data science, and artificial intelligence to advance research and innovation. He also stressed the importance of developing research infrastructure, building a new generation of researchers, and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry to secure a sustainable future for Thai bioinformatics.

Prof. Damneinsant Prueksakor, M.D., stated that the Thailand Center of Excellence for Bioinformatics, in collaboration with the National Phenome Institute, organized this conference to promote knowledge and innovation in bioinformatics, build collaborative networks, develop new personnel, and push for national strategies regarding infrastructure and sustainable use of biological data. The conference demonstrates the role of KKU and the National Phenome Institute as collaborative centres for bioinformatics, biological data science, and researcher development in support of national progress.

Dr. Viparat Dee-ong, the chair of the opening ceremony, stated that the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) prioritizes bioinformatics and biological data science. Therefore, it has supported the operations of the Thailand Center of Excellence for Bioinformatics, which is considered a crucial mechanism in driving scientific excellence and enhancing the country’s research capabilities. This conference is not only an important opportunity for interdisciplinary knowledge exchange but also reflects a shared commitment to strengthening Thailand’s innovation potential to become a regional leader in bioinformatics.

The event included special lectures by distinguished experts from both Thailand and abroad, research presentations, technology and innovation exhibitions, and academic discussions on standards, ethics, and governance of biological data. This reflects the role of Khon Kaen University and the National Phenome Institute as centers for collaboration in bioinformatics, biological data science, and human resource development to support national development through science, research, and innovation.

The co-hosting of this international academic conference by the National Phenome Institute, Khon Kaen University, serves to disseminate research and innovation outcomes and reflects Khon Kaen University’s potential and role in driving academic collaboration and national development through knowledge and innovation. This will be applied for the benefit of society and the country’s economy, leading to improved quality of life for the people and enhanced national competitiveness for a sustainable future.
