Khon Kaen University is preparing to host a grand cultural and artistic event, the “2026 Isan Heritage Artist and Outstanding Cultural Relations Achievers Honor Ceremony,” on Thai Heritage Conservation Day. This event will pay tribute to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the Princess Royal and recognize exemplary artists from the Isan region, aiming to inspire younger generations to continue preserving Thai culture sustainably.
The “RobRua MoKo” program on FM 103 Khon Kaen University radio station discussed the organization of “Thai Heritage Conservation Day 2026,” which will take place on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 1:00 PM onwards, at the Auditorium, Khon Kaen University Science Park. Assoc. Prof. Niyom Wongpongkham, Ph.D., Vice President for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, was a guest on the program.

A key highlight of the event will be the presentation of awards to “Isan Heritage Artists” and “Outstanding Cultural Relations Achievers.” This serves to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to Thai society and culture, particularly in the Isan region, across fields such as music, performing arts, literature, and visual arts.
Assoc. Prof. Niyom stated that these awards not only bestow honor upon artists but also serve as an important mechanism for “creating role models” for younger generations to learn from and appreciate the value of cultural roots. Furthermore, they act as a tool for social communication through artists who have a large following.
Another distinctive feature of this year’s event is the gathering of numerous famous artists to perform and add color to the occasion, including renowned Molam artists, singers, and actors. This is expected to attract more people and young individuals to participate in cultural activities.
Assoc. Prof. Niyom added that Khon Kaen University also has a vision to develop “awards for young artists” to provide a platform for new generations with artistic and cultural talents to gain recognition while preserving traditional cultural roots. This aims to connect “past-present-future” in line with the concepts of Creative Economy and Soft Power, further developing them into vital forces for the country’s future.

In terms of societal outcomes, the event is expected to increase awareness of cultural value, stimulate community participation, and promote the creative economy at the local level, using “artists” as a medium for driving this initiative.
Assoc. Prof. Niyom reiterated that Khon Kaen University remains committed to its role as a “University of Creation and Development” deeply rooted in local wisdom. It will continue to strive for a balance between preservation and development to ensure that Thai heritage remains vibrant and valuable in modern society.
Therefore, the public, students, and interested individuals are invited to be a part of preserving Thai heritage and to admire these valuable artists at this important event on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 1:00 PM onwards, at the Auditorium, Khon Kaen University Science Park.
