KKU Joins Higher Education Network to Enhance Capabilities of Students with Disabilities, Fostering an Equitable and Sustainable Society

Khon Kaen University, through its Division of Student Development and Alumni Relations, reinforced its “leave no one behind” policy by leading a delegation of students with disabilities and staff from the Disability Support Services (DSS) Centre to participate in the “Project for Promoting and Developing the Potential of DSS Staff and University Students with Disabilities.” Hosted by Burapha University from 25–28 February 2026, the event took place at Burapha University, Chanthaburi Campus, and the Maldives Beach Resort. The project aimed to build a collaborative network and enhance comprehensive capabilities, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of reducing inequality and ensuring inclusive education.

The primary objective of participating was to develop the professional and life skills of students, preparing them to enter the workforce, while simultaneously enhancing the expertise of educational support staff to provide more effective care and welfare services.

The project was filled with creative and inspiring activities, attended by participants from higher education institutions across the country. The opening ceremony was presided over by Assistant Professor Parinya Nakpathom, Vice President for Student and Alumni Affairs at Burapha University, with Dr. Sarawut Siriwong, Acting Vice President for Chanthaburi Campus, delivering a welcome address.

Key activities included:

  • Professional Skills Development: A hands-on workshop on “Transforming Imagination into Creative Jewellery Design,” led by a team of instructors from Burapha University.
  • Inspiration and Motivation: A panel discussion with Thai national para-athletes and a lecture on the direction for developing the potential of students with disabilities, delivered by a representative from the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI).
  • Life Skills Enhancement: Activities focused on stress management, emotional regulation, and self-discovery of hidden potential, facilitated by a team from PARTEEHARN Company.
  • Networking and Knowledge Exchange: A forum on promoting employment opportunities and fostering connections among DSS centres from various universities to share best practices.
  • Experiential Learning: A field trip to study the mangrove forest ecosystem at the Kung Krabaen Bay Royal Development Study Centre.

Sign language interpretation services were provided throughout the project to ensure inclusive and equitable participation, reflecting a strong commitment to inclusive education.

This engagement not only broadened the horizons and strengthened the capabilities of Khon Kaen University’s students and staff but also forged a robust collaborative network among higher education institutions. This network will collectively drive the advancement and sustainability of support systems for students with disabilities, contributing to the creation of an equitable society where everyone can realise their full potential and become valuable human resources for the nation.
