The two universities shared expertise on systematic physical infrastructure management, sustainable development strategies, and the integration of advanced digital mapping systems.

On 28 November 2025, the Division of Physical Ecosystem and Environment, Khon Kaen University, welcomed a delegation from the Division of Buildings and Grounds, Office of the President, Suranaree University of Technology (SUT). The purpose of the visit was to exchange experiences and best practices in the physical and environmental management of a leading educational institution in the Northeast region. The meeting was held at the Sarasin Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Sirikunakorn Building, Khon Kaen University.
The study visit was honoured by the attendance of executives from both institutions, led by Associate Professor Choopong Thongkamsamut, Ph.D., Vice President for Physical Ecosystem and Environment, Khon Kaen University, a key driver of the University’s sustainable infrastructure agenda. The SUT delegation came specifically to study KKU’s strategies for achieving operational excellence.

Associate Professor Choopong Thongkamsamut welcomed the delegation, stating: “Khon Kaen University places significance on developing physical infrastructure and an environment that is conducive to learning and research. This study visit is an excellent opportunity for both institutions to exchange experiences and best practices, strengthening the physical management standards of regional universities toward international benchmarks.”
The Vice President for Physical Ecosystem and Environment also delivered a presentation detailing KKU’s development strategy, which focuses on sustainability, efficient resource utilisation, and cultivating an environment that enhances the quality of life and learning for both students and staff.

Mr. Methawin Thaowchalee, Architect from the Design and Construction Office, subsequently addressed the subjects of transparent and fair procurement processes, systematic budget preparation and the establishment of central cost estimates. He also covered the selection of qualified contractors, clearly defined scopes of work, and public hearings for the master plan that encouraged participation from all sectors. Crucially, he emphasised maximising the practical use of the University’s master plan.
Mr. Nattakorn Khumtip, Tradesman Helper, showcased cutting-edge innovations in the master plan information system. This advanced system is the result of integrated cooperation between the Division of Physical Infrastructure, KKU Digital Technology Office, GISTDA, and Vallaris Map, applying GIS technology and Digital Mapping to systematically manage KKU’s master plan and spatial information. This collaborative achievement sets a new benchmark for data-driven infrastructure planning, effectively supporting the University’s future growth trajectory.

Mr. Watchara Pattanawiphatporn, Acting Director of the Division of Physical Infrastructure and Environment, shared his experiences in the systematic management and development of the University’s physical facilities and utilities, highlighting the importance of long-term planning and internal integration across various departments to ensure cohesive and sustainable development.
This study visit reflects the strong commitment of leading universities in the Northeast region to raise their administrative standards to achieve national and international recognition. The exchange of knowledge and experience between institutions will not only enhance the potential of each university but also strengthen a regional network dedicated to advancing infrastructure management, thereby genuinely driving Thai higher education towards excellence. The activity was warmly received, featuring an engaging question-and-answer session and creative discussion, marking another important step in building a learning network among the country’s leading educational institutions for sustainable quality development.
