Great! Songkran, MKU 2025, continues Isan culture, organizes "Boon Duan Ha, procession to worship Buddha, Somma Ayuwat"
On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the Khon Kaen University Arts and Culture Center organized the grand annual “Boon Duan Ha, Phuttha Bucha Procession, Somma Ayunu” activity in 2025 at the Khum Silapawathanatham, on the banks of Bueng Si Than. The objective is to continue the tradition of the twelve customs, reflecting cultural values. This year’s event was organized after UNESCO announced the recognition of “Songkran in Thailand” as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2023, reflecting the importance of preserving Thai traditions, especially the Boon Duan Ha event, which is an important tradition of the Northeast that Khon Kaen University has continuously adhered to and practiced. Today’s activities began lively in the evening, with a sand pagoda-building contest, a ceremony to ward off bad luck for the 12 zodiac signs, a ceremony to bathe the Buddha image and a replica of Phra That Phanom, as well as a ceremony to light incense sticks and recite prayers to pay homage to Luang Por Phra Si, 50 years of KKU. The university’s senior executives also participated in the ceremony, including Dr. Narongchai Akaraseni, Chairman of the University Council, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Panthongviriyakul. President of Khon Kaen University, Mr. Siriwat Pinijphanit, Vice Governor of Khon Kaen Province, amidst executives, lecturers, students, personnel of Khon Kaen University and the network of communities around Khon Kaen University, including the general public, totaling more than 1,000 people who warmly joined to be a part of today's activities, Assoc.
