Gender equality and the role of business and economics
Nowadays, the world is more open and accepting of human differences and diversity, especially “sexual diversity”. It can be seen that every June is designated as “Pride Month”. In addition, the “rainbow” has been widely used in activities related to these people and is used as a symbol of the LGBTQ+ group. People and organizations around the world have organized activities or campaigns to promote the “sexual diversity group”, which can be seen from the LGBTQ+ parade, including many people changing their social profile pictures to include rainbows. Thailand is one of the countries that accepts and is most open to sexual diversity in the Southeast Asian region. Although there are some limitations and obstacles, the fact that Thai society accepts and supports LGBTQ+ more has resulted in continuous development of businesses and economies related to this group. There is also an expression and push for the rights and freedoms of people with sexual diversity. One of them is pushing for the “Marriage Equality Act”. On June 18, 2024, the Senate meeting approved the “Marriage Equality Act”, which will come into effect 120 days after the announcement. This is considered another important step in Thai history and an important step for Thai society, which is the first country in ASEAN to have a marriage equality law and to exercise human rights equally.
