Academically, “endemic species” refers to plants that are found growing and naturally propagating in a certain area of the world and have a limited distribution range. Therefore, endemic plants of Thailand refer to plants found only in Thailand and only in the world. “Prao Korat” is a plant in the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). Its scientific name is Kaempferia koratensis Picheans. It was first discovered in 2011 by Mr. Chayan Phichiensunthon, a researcher from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Khon Kaen University. It was found in a dry dipterocarp forest in the Khao Takud Rang area, Udomthap Subdistrict, Wang Nam Khiao District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, which is approximately 20 kilometers away from the Sakaerat Environmental Research Station. At that time, it was reported that it was only found in the area of the type locality. Therefore, it is an endemic plant of Nakhon Ratchasima Province and is considered an endemic plant of Thailand. Local people call it Wan Phor Khao or Wan Tub Moo Khao (Picheansoonthon, 2011). In this article, we will call it “Pra Korat”, which is the origin of the scientific name indicating the place where it was discovered, “koratensis”. Currently, there are no reports of it being found in other provinces of Thailand. The area of Sakaerat Environmental Research Station, Wang Nam Khiao District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, has a topography similar to Khao Takud Rang, which is the original source of Phra Korat.
