Giving runners peace of mind with new safety standards when KKU doctors invite medical friends and volunteers to support the Khon Kaen International Marathon, running alongside them for the full distance and providing assistance along the way.
“Runners appreciate the fast and close support system with intensive training to prepare 100 volunteers to carry out their missions throughout the 3 races.” The organization of the Khon Kaen International Marathon 2020 on January 26, 2020, which was organized with the cooperation of Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen Province, and government agencies, private businesses that provided support, along with communities along the way and the people of Khon Kaen Province who welcomed more than 40,000 runners as if they were guests, providing warmth, impression, and safety throughout the race. In addition, there was a group of medical volunteers who were runners working in the medical field, such as doctors, nurses, physical therapists, both within Khon Kaen University and external medical networks, and those with knowledge in helping injured people and providing first aid, who volunteered to help with the race mission under the name Medical Team, totaling 100 people, to complete the runner care system to be perfect for the first year of the race. Prof. Dr. Uamkae Sukprasit or Dr. Ae, an oncology specialist at Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, as the Chair of the Khon Kaen International Marathon Proactive First Aid Committee Revealed that the main reason for initiating this project is to help runners who may have injuries ranging from minor to serious injuries so that everyone is safe. After seeing the news about runners, we felt that we must have a close care system ready throughout the route. By using runners who have knowledge, experience, and training to run with the runners, we will be able to observe symptoms and provide assistance or coordinate with the center in a timely manner. It is a mechanism to connect the assistance system that we have never had before.
