The Office of Academic Services, KKU, in collaboration with the Queen Sirikit Sericulture Center, Khon Kaen, and the Tha Krasom Subdistrict Administrative Organization, the community, and the Tha Krasom Subdistrict community, have developed a sericulture development plan under the brand name “Suk Krasom”, with the goal of displaying it at the World Silk Conference, which Khon Kaen Province will host in August 2020.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Sathorn Porntrakulpipat, Deputy Director of Academic Services Office, Academic Affairs Division, together with Ms. Pimolrat Methintharangsan, representative of the Director of the Sericulture Center, Khon Kaen, and Mr. Nikhom Klangnongsaeng, Mayor of Tha Kraserm Subdistrict Administrative Organization, held a community meeting with the Tha Kraserm Subdistrict Community, Nam Phong District, Khon Kaen Province on December 12, 2019 at the Community Hall, Village No. 5, Tha Kraserm Subdistrict, Nam Phong District, Khon Kaen Province.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Sathorn Porntrakulpipat Said that “Khon Kaen University’s policy aims to develop the community of Tha Krasom Subdistrict into a model community for development by having all sectors see shared value (CSV), including the Office of Academic Services, KKU, the Sericulture Center, Khon Kaen, the Tha Krasom Subdistrict Administrative Organization, and the community must benefit together. Therefore, a community meeting was held to plan development together.”
Mr. Nikhom Klangnongsaeng, Mayor of Tha Krasom Subdistrict Administrative Organization He said, “Tambon Tha Kraserm has two strong groups: the “Kraserm Suk” foreigner group and the “Suk Kraserm” silk group. Kraserm Suk foreigner is quite famous and can be sold to Top Supermarket. Suk Kraserm silk is a quality silk with a unique pattern of the sub-district, the “Khlui Ta Kwai” pattern. It still has the problem of being sold at a low price. Therefore, I would like experts from the Sericulture Center and Khon Kaen University to help add value to Suk Kraserm silk.
The results of the village meeting showed a common goal to produce complete silk to be displayed at the World Silk Conference, which Khon Kaen Province will host in August 2020 by 1) improving the water system for mulberry cultivation in the mulberry plantation of the silk enterprise group; 2) developing silk reeling standards to obtain standard fibers; 3) developing silk production standards to obtain the Royal Peacock Seal; 4) developing patterns to be international patterns, such as the Kaen Kaen Khun pattern; and 5) developing packaging and public relations to create value for “Suk Krasom” silk.
